I can't help but get the feeling someone is going to back down to some pressure somewhere or another and the vote will, in fact, fail.

There will be shock and dismay, and then SeattleBlues or Ken Hutcherson or some other Backwards Cultural Holdout is going to pop out from behind one of those curtains with a flourish of a black cape and cackle and gloat.
