What a great list of suspects. The Swiffer tweet is hilarious, but that must narrow it down. I can't see Jonathan Franzen, Michael Chabon or Colson Whitehead thinking that was funny.

What's Mark Leyner up to? He's been guilty of impersonating himself as a successful writer.
Heh, and googling results of their names gives:

Oct 13, 1992 – Michiko Kakutani (review date 13 October 1992). SOURCE: "Who Is Mark Leyner? A Legend in His Own Mind," in The New York Times

re: Kakutani Repetitions

Her review October 13, 1992 of Leyner's Et Tu, Babe ends with "One begins this demented book amused and entertained and finishes it reeling from anecdote overload and more than a little sick of the author's willful hipness."

Her December 15, 1992 review of The Friendly Shakespeare by Norrie Epstein includes "Yes, her opinions suffer from a willful hipness."

Embarrassed, "willful hipness" left New York in early '93 and quietly settled in Portland after a brief rowdy stint in Seattle.

"Every book nerd on Twitter is currently thinking..."

My guess is there are book nerds on Twitter who had no idea about all of this.

"This peach-banana smoothie contains instances of ruinous tension and overwhelming virtuosity, but in the end must be deemed a failure."

OMG. LOL. This is brilliant.
