"simple, peaceful acts of strength and solidarity"

??? Wha- ???

Does this mean we can't hang Rupert Murdoch and Eric Cantor in effigy???
2
"McGinn's comments" and "brief, generic and rather uninspiring" is redundant.

McGinn spoke along some of the same lines Fnarf wrote about today. Rallyers would have been about as happy to hear it as Slog commenters have been to read it. Doesn't mean it's not worh saying.

Kill @3 for (failed) spam.

Regardless of what you think of me, Gus, or anyone, I think we can all agree that I shouldn't be addressing crowds. I'm not sure McGinn should either, though there really isn't anything else he can do. He's just the mayor; he can't even tax the superrich if he wants, because they live in Medina. Come to think of it, he should be encouraging the protesters to go to Medina and attack their comical police force and shut their roads. Or head to Mercer Island and block off Paul Allen's driveway.

Have fun holding your nose while you vote to re-elect him in a year.
7
He sounded pretty good on TV. Can you imagine what Nickels would have said (if anything)? Quit complaining.
8
Elect only from the 99%.

Vote only for the 99%.
9
You'll not see nothing.

Like the Mighty McGinn.

@5, are you telling me that all of those downtown multi-national corporations are paying all of the B&O tax the city could levy?

I mean, that must be the case, since he is reduced to serving his upzone overlords with curbside appeal funded with car tabs and parking taxes... To ensure that those businesses are served with high turnover in parking and better real estate values.

Is it the case that all of these corporations in our city are paying their fair share?
Maybe his heart wasn't in it.

It's kind of fucked how McGinn, who was elected by lefties who wanted to challenge the status-quo is managing to completely alienate all of the people who put him in office. What the fuck, man?

David Rolf rocks.

@5, Medina would be easier to reach by bus, but I like the notion of marchers gathering outside Paul Allen's house on Mercer Island. There is a nice road that arches over his compound there. He wanted it closed off but the city of Mercer Island refused. It would be great spot for gathering to wave placards and make a hubbub.

Not that he would be likely at that home. He has handfuls of houses around the world. NYT reported that just last week Allen paid $25 m for a Fifth Ave penthouse to pair with his apartment on the floor below.

So what? The mayor gave a lukewarm speech. At least he supports the occupy movement, and brought coffee. Mayor Bloomberg isn't nearly as friendly. Do I actually like McGinn better than the Stranger does? Weird. I predict that the Stranger will turn on him next election, judging on how they've turned on candidates and issues in the past.

There's plenty of wealthy neighborhoods in Seattle: Perkin's Lane, Broadmoor, Laurelhurst, parts of West Seattle and Mount Baker. No need to cross the lake.

And Fnarf dear, I would love to see you addressing a crowd. I'm envisioning something like The Key Arena, with huge jumbotrons showing your face hung directly above the Dias. You'd be pounding the podium and waving your arms, the crowd would be going crazy. It would be excellent.
16
Homeless protesters are on the Gates Foundation's lawns. Is that good enough?

McGinn has by no means alienated all the people who voted for him.

Dummies...the rich didn't get that way from taxing.

Seize control of the Fed and print yourselves up some nice fresh Quantitative Easing.

Vote for a 99%er

Vote for yourselves.

nickels will beat mcginn. and mcginn will be happy.

If you give two shits about how fucked the country is than this might be for you...The cops are about to end #occupyseattle in Westlake.

Catalina, keeping it in the city is a great idea too. A march along Lake Washington Blvd. from Glaser's past the various Reeds, along the Tennis Club, then up to mill around menacingly outside Broadmoor. Then all aboard the bus for pizzas up at Piecora.
21
Just to be accurate, McGinn was invited to speak at an SEIU jobs rally that was in going on in Westlake in solidarity with Occupy Seattle. The rally was not directly connected to the Occupy movement. I would be surprised if the GA vote would allow McGinn to officially speak at something that Occupy Seattle was putting on considering the level of support he has given the occupiers so far.
22
Yeah, so it wasn't a MLK "I have a dream" speech, but at least it wasn't negative.

Please wait...
