I'm no fan of Perry, but it's hardly responsible journalism to post that WaPo hatchet-job without posting his response (which was quite reasonable). He didn't own the property, he didn't name it, in fact, his family painted-over the name, and it's been renamed for years and years now.
Americans keen on sending troops to Mexico might be surprised to find out that the other side isn't just a few dozen waiters bearing frozen margaritas and kids selling Chiclets on the side of the road. It's a major industrial country with 110 million people. My Mexican friends are already up in arms over this idiot and his uninformed views. This kind of bullshit could bring a little scattered violence on Americans in Mexico -- something they have heretofore been unexposed to. Mexico being a safer country than the US and all. Especially Texas.
@6 - Oh please. Everyone's grandparents called them that. Fortunately, Brazil nuts come up in conversation pretty infrequently when I'm talking to my grandmother.
Perry surely has delivered what few (non-Cuban) Latino GOP primary votes exist to his opposition with this latest nutrage - and his quote will surely feature prominently in Spanish-language Democratic campaign materials should he be the nominee.
He clearly has no idea how sensitive the issue of US military intervention (invasion) is in Mexico and Central America.
And for fity_two_eighty, a bunch of people have come forward now to say that they were there and remember the name being prominently featured on that rock for many years after they first began accompanying the Perrys there, and after their purchase of the land. One specifically recounts thinking somehitng like "this is going to cause some trouble for Rick down the road." it does not seem to the the case they the Perrys were either unaware of the name or unable to make the change.
Going into Mexico might be a clusterfuck, but probably no more than the Middle East. We need to keep that military industrial complex greased somehow, and at least soldiers could go home for the weekends from "Operation Chihuahua Cleanup".
Taking the war on drugs to it's next (il)logical conclusion.
Can you just imagine a guerrilla war on our southern border? Are we really so stupid as to assume Mexico will just roll over? Al Qeada must love Perry.
Now now. Don't confuse Strangeer writers with silly things like truth! It would fry their tiny little- well, for lack of a better word- minds.

Seriously, the only possible usefulness of generational guilt is if it somehow adds to a mountain of evidence against making a wrong choice today.
It's at the point where a write-in candidate could win.
I mean, if a bunch of people wrote in the name of a friendly Republican he could take the primary.
I mean, if such a thing could happen.
The good news is they moved the jockey with a lantern into the tool shed.

Um, guys, you did pay the bills, right?
