No wonder they want to shut this down. The people of Renton are getting screwed.
2
If the allegations weren't true, I can't see why the Renton PD would care.
3
He's not "the cartoonist," he's not "the animator"...I guess he could by a bit of a stretch be "the filmmaker" as the Times put it today. Anyway, can we think of another term for typing dialogue onto xtranormal.com? "The computer user"?
4
another term? the renton police dept would prefer: propagandist. or slanderer. or stalker. would any of those suit?

i'm going with: creator.
5
If the creator of these videos had to hack into private files to get this information, then using cyberstalking law to prosecute him/her may be justified.
6
Yes, of course that all sucks, and I think the Renton police department is being ridiculous. Still don't like the media all over town calling this person "the cartoonist." Can't I make a snarky comment to that end and still not agree with what the police department is trying to do here?
7
I wonder how long it took for someone on the Renton police department to mentally weigh the pro/con of getting a warrant for phone or e-mail records from you, Cienna, to track down how you got your hands on these, or to simply charge you yourself with cyberstalking.
8
You know, I half wonder if whomever made these just used police records as transcripts...
9
Or.....

It sounds like whoever did this is just using office gossip, maybe exaggerated, but still likely with some basis in fact. You guys have never had stories like these where you worked? You've never had promotions that helped settle problems or fit into office politics? Maybe it's just government jobs.
10
@7, the Renton PD sent them to me, as I stated in the post I put up yesterday (and link to in this post).

So if they were to charge me with cyberstalking, they would be fucking idiots.
11
@10 For any number of reasons, I think it's safe to conclude that they are indeed fucking idiots, with the sole exception of whoever created these 'toons. This is just genius! Suck it, Renton PD!
12
@10 I bet the Stranger would have loved a good old fight over journalists rights to secret sources.

I just don't see how the Renton PD thinks this whole thing makes them look good at all.
14
What is ironic is that by going after the creator in an attempt to silence her/him, Renton PD has brought orders of magnitude MORE attention to the department, its alleged corruption/gross incompetence than there would have been otherwise; as none of us would have seen or heard about these 'toons if they hadn't.
15
If the allegations in the videos were not true, Renton's chief would not have recognized that they were aimed at him.

This is the best example of the Streisand Effect ever, with the department declaring in an affidavit, under penalty of perjury, that they do indeed resemble those allegations.

So we're not only dealing with a criminal violation of the whistleblower's rights, but also with a city attorney and chief of police who are among the most incompetent fucking idiots in the state of Washington. Not to mention the fucking idiot judge, The Dishonorable James Cayce, who was fucking stupid enough to sign a warrant for allegations that have absolutely nothing to do with the statute quoted in the affidavit.
16
The "cartoonist" may have lots of valid points about corruption in his department, but he sure sounds like a bitter old passed-over misogynist homophobic asshole to me!
17
@16 ... you know, that was the feeling i was getting as well. when i hear someone making these complaints in real life... ugh! "no one else gets in trouble, why do i?" "everyone else gets promoted, why don't i?"

still, the RPD has no business -- based on these vids -- getting the id of the creator.
18
Funny thing is, the subject of these videos knew the videos were about them BEFORE there was any clear identifying information in the videos.

Meaning that what the creator did say was ACCURATE enough that the subject could recognize themselves.

Meaning that the crap was TRUE.

lolololololololololol
