Man, get away from our kids!

4
That has been there at least a year.
5
...aaaaaand?
6
Random photography does not a blog post make.
7
Put a bird on it!
8
@6, it does on Slog -- but only if it's askew and shot into the sun.
9
If I'm not mistaken, that was taken from the parking lot of a little bodega/"pharmacy."

So, uh, what's the deal with that?
10
Possessive apostrophe problems in the first world. Fuck my life.
11
But what's the traffic like there?
12
This is the worst post I've ever seen
13
My kid goes there. It's nice.
14
Greenlake? Seriously? Is that all you have?

I'm in Raleigh, North Carolina, for God's sake. I'm "downtown" (a place that looks suspiciously like Bellevue), and at a quarter to midnight, there is no place to eat, other than something called a "jimmy johns" (I think we have them in Seattle), where I was just given a sandwich with alfalfa sprouts on it.

There are two name brand hotels (I'm in one of them) they are incredibly interchangeable, including the fact that neither of them serve food after 11 pm. So I am stuck with "Jimmy Johns". This is even worse than Omaha.

So don't talk to me about Greenlake. You people have nothing to complain about.
15
I ride by there every single day. It should be a liquor store. Fuck the kids.
16
I don't think kids should be practicing dentistry.
17
Go back to the hill.

GAWD DOOSHBAG GET A TWITTER JEEZUS.

Albertsons.
20
They're licensed to sell weed to kids

22
I would not go to a kid dentist.
23
I'm sorry, Catalina. Jimmy John's only distinction is that in just 45 seconds they can make you a sandwich capable of making you wish you hadn't waited for it.
24
Green Lake is two words, and just because the Dentist can't look out his fucking door and see the street sign does not mean you need to repeat his mistake. Get an editor.
25
Stranger staffer travels 10 minutes from Capitol Hill and is bemused by the quaint, rural environs of Green Lake: Film at 11.

Vel-DuRay win.
27
I miss Alberston's

@14, Raleigh was the 'big city' when we lived in Fayetteville. Talk about a giant shithole, the city is the same population as Bellevue and the 'downtown' is a strip two blocks long. I'm dead serious.

My wife was in the car heading back to Seattle the day I got on the plane to Afghanistan (she made it to St. Louis last night).

Oh! And if you are going to staying for a while, forget Raleigh for the bar scene, hit up Chapel Hill. Downtown buts right up to the UNC campus and has a very nice selection/concentration of bars/pubs/restaurants.

Carrboro is worth a day trip. Little hipsterville outside of Chapel Hill.

Neo-China in Cary has the only Dim Sum for hours. It's not as good you are used to in Seattle, but it will take care of your fix.

For bars in Raleigh go over next to the NC State campus. I forget the name of the area as once we discovered Chapel Hill that's where we went for a night of drinking.

As a non-Seattle resident - yeah, have no idea what the point of this post is. Other than the apostrophe issue, could someone please explain the point of this?
31
If I had to guess it's the juxtaposition of the Dentistry office and the 'Do Not Enter' sign.
32
It is my new beat. Things are afoot.
33
I like Jimmy John's.
34
So you moved off the Hill? Now THAT'S news.

this building is a good example of failed architecture. a few years after construction, they still have vacancies in the ground floor retail/commercial. kids dentistry, woo hoo. there is a lack of hugely wide doors that would open this building's great location to green lake. there is a great attempt at outdoor seating going on right now; it's illegal as they don't have the mandatory fencing; expect the city to shut it down soon. the turnpike pizza is a misfit for this neighborhood -- who'd pick a "highway" motif? and it barely has a sign you can see. and, the buildign doesn't have lots of comemrcial signs so no one knows what those businesses are there. They also don't have any parking in front the way starbucks does so that's also a space killer. it's slightly incredible this location next to a park where 10,000 a day can walk on a summer weekend day and across from the highest volume starbucks in north seattle has such semi vacant stores .... I mean really, a generic pizza joint? meanwhile the view corridors through this buliding don't give you views, they should have had a design where that open space was appended to the corners to open up the public spaces on the streets and create miniplazas the way oh about every sucessful city around the world has done it for centuries, but no, our design review commission likes view corridors creating vacant canyons THROUGH the building that no one uses to hand out in. it's a generic bread loaf. businesses that rely on appointments, like dentistry and tanning salons and chiro, do not a vibrant streetscape make. imagine the spanish steps with blank smokey doors leading to dentistry offices and chiro and you'll see what I mean.
36
Vibrant has a good point. There are thousands of people, and pretty limited choices. If they paved over the big hole that was going to be a Central Market, they could have a great weekend farmer's market and street food during the week. It's a simple idea. Why does everything take 10 years in Seattle?

@14, try your JJ's in a lettuce wrap. It's at least edible that way.

Please wait...
