Just a tip: If you're going to have an update, it ought to be visible before the jump.

I wholeheartedly believe that we can continue the centuries old practice of child prostitution without the help from Backpage.com. Say it with me, Yes We Can!

Jesus, this mayor is a pansy.

1. This guy McGinn did not think background checks were worthwhile when he hired his own staff to represent us all at City Hall. I am beating a dead horse with the name Chris Haugen for the slow kids in class.
2. The Mayor's oath of office says he will uphold the U.S. and State Constitutions i,e the law of the land. Prostitution, you can argue for its legality, is illegal. So the Mayor, if he insists on being all law-and-order all of the sudden should be against all prostition not just that of children. He is totally cherry picking in despartation for some gooe press. "What a brave man to condemn cruelty".
3. He is letting Ashton Kutcher set the agenda for the City.
4. Why not go after the "Johns" here and actually prevent some victimization instead of posturing for headlines?

For the record child exploitation in any form is bad.

@4

Making choices about law enforcement priorities is constitutional.

Well, yeah, we're in some interesting legal territory here.

AFAIK, there's nothing inherently illegal about advertising an illegal service (the 1st amendment argument). So I don't know that the City has any way to force VVM/Backpage/SW to do anything. But it's certainly within the City's right to try and shame them into it, outside of the legal system.

Also, McGinn did make some statements in the press conference stating he believed catching the johns is the true priority.

Hey Eli, can you put media-affiliations to the press faces who were asking questions? It seemed like only a few of the press people there were really having a conversation.

I think I recognized you in there but I have no idea who the others work for.

@4: Rule of law's for cowards, especially for unjust law. Besides, law IS appropriate to selectively enforce. I don't see anything about prostitution in US and State constitutions, you fucking moron.

If you care about the harm done to prostitutes, make it legal.

Was just over at 5 Guys at The Landing in Renton...man that place has really taken off...people everywhere...it so much more the Puget Sound of the 21st century than dowdy weird old Seattle.

Which Stranger staffer has their eye on a job with the mayor's office?

". I don't see anything about prostitution in US and State constitutions"

I don't see anything about government welfare and state run health care either.

Btw the majority of the child prostitution in the US involves, you guessed it, young black males pimping young black girls to other homeys. Blame 50 Cent and ghetto thug rap u all love to defend.

@11: Ohai Klansman.

Please wait...
