Touché, Goldy!
But....what about snowstorms and holidays? eh?
2
Great news!

<10% doesn't equal peace of mind. As a former Michigander who fondly remebers being able to purchase liquor until 11:59pm 7 days a week, these hours are better, sure, but they still leave me somewhat on edge.

That edge could be eliminated with legal MJ though.

Now we just need the government to set the same hours for every other kind of store in the state. Think of all the benefits of a state monopoly we're missing. It's chaos out there.

Why do we let private businesses sell things, anyway?
5
This is Goldy's best work ever.

1/3 of the stores will be closed on Sunday. That's not standardization. Holiday hours? No mention.

There is absolutely no reason on earth why liquor stores shouldn't be open 9 AM to midnight 365 days a year. Or whatever the private store owner thinks is best (even if it's less).
7
How did you get less than ten percent of his waking hours each week? Because I got over a third. Unless he's somehow awake for more than fifty hours a day (110 on Sundays).
8
@6 if man was meant to drink all the time, we wouldn't have invented the Bible and women and stuff.
9
How about 9am to 2am, every day?

The whole notion of hours being driven by things other than demand is silly. Why should it be a fucking political battle to a get a store to sell a product during times people are willing to exchange money for it.

I'd have a lot more sympathy for state stores if they were run more like businesses and less like some half-ass public service.

Just for the sake or argument, here, let's assume that alcohol is not a food item. How many other retail establishments are open after 9pm on weekdays and 10pm on weekends? This seems like a pretty standard retail setup. With the exception of 24 hour big box stores, everything shuts down around the same time. If you really can't get liquor in the 65-70 hours per week that the liquor stores are open, tough it up and buy beer. Bitches.

Just for the sake of argument, here, let's assume that alcohol is not alcohol.
13
And this is only if he wants to buy liquor at the liquor store. There are plenty of establishments that will gladly sell him booze right up to his bedtime.

In California I can buy vodka just about any day I want between about 6am and 2pm. That includes all state holidays because Safeway is literally open all the time! And should I need a liter of Jack on Christmas day, I don't have to rack myself with guilt about making potentially Christian Safeway employees work on Christmas because I also live near an AWESOME Muslim owned liquor store. This is all in San Francisco, which is not short on artisan beers, but actually awash in microbreweries and has two more widely available beer brands produced inside it's diminutive city limits (that are actually on land).
15
And that's another thing about private liquor sales. We San Franciscans can choose to buy liquor and support small immigrant owned businesses at the same time.
16
"All 166 locations...."

That's the real number on which to focus. It is far too small of a number.

I think the state liquor stores are ridiculous, but I just can't get that worked up over it.

Please wait...
