Damn shame.

They've still got their rather wonderful new-style pizzeria Pulcinella just a a couple miles away, though - maybe this closing is the culmination of a planned shift? (Lord, Vince's garlic pizza is just wonderful...)

Bummer.

Apparently, the only restaurants that ever close are the ones I eat at. At least in Vince's case, it wasn't for health reasons.

When my daughter was little, she was terrible in restaurants, and so we'd go to Vinces, which was loudish and family oriented and had lots of breadsticks on the table. The pizza was good, though the rest of the food was overly salty and just okay. But it was what it was and didn't disappoint.

Even though I haven't been there in a few years, I'll miss it... one of the last vestiges of Garlic Gulch.

At least it sounds like they're liquidating and moving on, unlike Pernicano's/Casa di Baffi, a fenced-off moldering eyesore in the heart of San Diego's Hillcrest gayborhood for more than 25 years.

Re: 5, that situation is a persuasive argument for strong vacant-property ordinances.

The food was nothing spectacular at Vince's, but the lounge was actually quite amazing, especially on Sunday's when they hosted an 'old school' karaoke featuring A LOT of 70s and 80s R&B. I'm no fan of drunks schleppin' it up, but several in the regular crew there could legitimately belt one out. They also had a Jazzaroke night I caught one time, live jazz combo performing standards for folks to sing....bummer!

Please wait...
