M Street? Noooo......

I'm made very grumpy whenever I drive past the "Le Bon Ton Roulé" sign. I would think they were just jokingly combining the "good times" phrase with "bon ton" and implying that fancy folks come there, were it not for the fact that it's translated as "let the good times roll" right underneath. How do people not proofread the name of their own damn restaurant?!

85th St Deli was the sketchiest place that ever sketched.

@2: I think it's a Cajun Creole bastardization with at least some authenticity.

Say what you will about New Orleans, but they're no slouches when it comes to screwing with the French language.

Sad times, no more Cuntry Tuesdays @ the Del Ray....

Landlords need to rethink the price of their commercial rents. The internet is putting the hurt on the larger retailers that were able to afford those higher rents. The businesses that will survive are small, locally owned with a strong following cannot afford such crazy prices. The smart landlord will keep the rents low for the small businesses and be less likely to see a vacancy in their space.

I went to the Treehouse a few times and always felt I was in Renton, not Fremont.

How could Casper's be gone?? The last time I was in there the place was packed and they had sold out of a lot of food. I guess that management might be to blame, because it certainly wasn't for lack of customers.
9
@4: Not according to anything I can find on the net, at least. I thought "laissez les bon temps rouler" was already a bastardization.

the loss of M Street Market is a tremendous blow to all the folks living nearby (there are LOTS of apatments within a few blocks).

My mom moved to that neighborhood in part because of the proximity to the M Market... and now it's gone. :-(

@9: "Laissez les bons temps rouler" might be a Louisiana-cultivated colloquialism, but it's presented in proper French.

My Google searching pulled up both this song: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bon_Ton_Rou… and more than a few shitty restaurants (including some in Louisiana) with the same spelling as the Frelard one.

Whoops, "bons." Sorry about that.

Hopefully you're right and it's intentional!

"Screamed Belltown". Do you mean that in the way dyed hair, morbid obesity, drug addiction and facial piercings scream Capitol Hill?

like a lot of folks in the south end, I loved Roy's BBQ. However, also like a lot of folks in the south end, I commute north to work and Roy's hours seemed to have it closed any time I could actually go.
The (small) discussion on RVP suggests that I wasn't the only one frustrated by this.

That old, dirty disgusting First Hill Grocery (once a very niceTradewell, I'm told) that used to be at 8th and Madison and used to be 1st Hill's only grocery store (way before QFC built a store at Broadway and Pike) was torn down to make way for apartments, condos, and a new grocery store. Now that grocery store is history. Sad news for First Hill residents. The good news is you won't have to walk all the way to Broadway and Republican to the QFC or Safeway there (both also history) as we once did to get groceries. Too bad, though. First Hill needs a convenient full service market.

I think it's pretty interesting that during most recessions stores and restaurants close because they don't have enough customers, But during this Great Recession it appears stores and restaurants are closing because rents has gotten too high. What gives?
16
correction: the QFC at Broadway and Republican is still there, of course, but moved across the street into the old Fred Meyer space in the Broadway Market. Still an inconvenient walk for First Hill people.

Call me a cretin, but I actually liked Noodle Ranch...

"Ballard Best BBQ" wasn't Barbecue at all - but an Asian grill. I was excited to see it opening - then damn near through a brick through the fucking window when I saw the menu. Stupid asses.

I don’t think Dulces is moving into the Oola building at 14th and Union. The Oola owner and building lease holder pretty much said so on the Cap Hill Blog http://www.capitolhillseattle.com/2011/0…

Actually, Chaiyo used to be in Bellevue, ended up moving across the street and is now called Tangerine. Excellent Thai food and a family owned restaurant. A bit tricky to find but it's in the Expedia building.

I live in West Seattle and every time I walked by TOM YUM KOONG it's been almost devoid of diners. I ate there once and the food was OK if not memorable. And my date and I were the only people there.

Has anyone actually been to the new Lunchbox Laboratory? The food's still good but now it's got this huge, corporate Johnny Rockets vibe going and seats 50. I hate, hate, hate (I mean really loathe) the new space. I love the food but the new space is as soulless as it gets. My guess is that the new investors held sway and pushed too far. If I wanted to eat at a mall, I'd go to a mall. No cache. No charm whatsoever. The shit thing of it is, I don't know what they could do to fix it, aside from moving.

@17 I loved Noodle Ranch too. While we're on the subject (Belltown) It sure seems like Wasabi Bistro has no real opening plans any time soon. Dope Burger has the same people working there and the place seems busy at lunch now. Heard Buddha (same block) was closing.

Please wait...
