Where is Matt Luby when we need some Canadian content?

Halton, Ontario Catholic School Board denies students' right to form GSAs, chair Alice Anne LeMay compares them to "Nazi Clubs."

The Sanchez story is so bizarre and heartbreaking. That goes way beyond the "crazy uncle."

Holy moly, Canuck! Looks like that "Catholic School Board" has a gay leader in its ranks to contend with in that newly elected 21-year-old Paul Marai from Out on Bay Street...
“I can’t believe we’re having this discussion in the 21st Century. I wonder if these people have been living under a rock for the past 20 years. I think a lot of people, a majority of people, in Oakville would say the same thing.”

Sometimes the news is the worst part of the day.

Kenny Loggins was also born in Everett, which is another reason to put footloose on slog.

Cool blog link, gus! Yeah, I felt a little better when I read about that youngster in the ranks, going head to head, hopefully, with that Jabba-the-Hut-like LeMay creature. It's such an odd thing here in Canada, public tax dollars (not my tax dollars, mind you, we do get to choose, at least) supporting Catholic schools, with all the baggage that goes with it. Anyhoo, fired off an email this a.m. to the Ontario Ministry...nothing like a little kick-ass to go with the morning java. (And I hope it's a good day on Slog, I have the most boring job ever to do at my desk today...sigh.)

Gotta love the unceasing fear mongering over WikieLeaks. The people they're worried about are ones named in leaked, but yet to be published cables. Ya know, the cables that news agencies like WikiLeaks and the NYT have been in contact with the government over to make sure they redact all info necessary to keeping sources safe. The Pentagon still can't name a single person harmed or imprisoned because of a WikiLeaks release (other than their torture of Bradley Manning). Be proactive sure, but they'll say anything to play up the drama and paint WikiLeaks in a manufactured bad light. Meanwhile, how many brown people has the U.S. Govt killed today? I think I’m safe in assuming it’s more than one.

All this dismantlement talk by the House GOP is nothing but smoke-and-mirrors, intended to show the party faithful that they're following through on promises they simply cannot keep. For one thing, none of these bills are ever going to see the light of day in the Senate, and even if, through some inexplicable set of circumstances, they WERE to pass through both chambers, neither has the numbers to override a Presidential veto.

The GOP knows this, they know these bills are effectively DOA, but they'd rather spin their wheels on futile acts of political posturing, rather than actually do something constructive.

It's just the way they roll, I guess...

"Two packages have detonated" != "released smoke and the smell of sulphur when they were opened".

But I suppose that "detonated" fits better with the fearmongering mindset than "crappy smoke bombs."

17 dead all for Pride and Glory.

Red China thanks us for providing them with cheap resources in Afghanistan using money borrowed from them to finance our troops dying overseas.

No love for "I'm Alright" or "Highway to the Danger Zone"?

Kenny Loggins ruined Christmas.

Re: So Effing Awful:

No kidding. I just read about that in the paper a few days ago and couldn't imagine the horror. Just goes to show that you can be happily going through life and at any moment some crazy person or angry asshole can cut it short or fuck it up in some other way.

Republitards say no more EPA?

Shocking that every single one of these proposals is coming from a coal mining/oil drilling state.

Please wait...
