The left had better wake up or lose whatever it's gained and then some. All this kvetching about not getting our way on every issue is useless and counter productive. Just put the religious fanatics back in charge or get out and support our leaders?

Patty Murray has been a fantastic Senator. Members of the LGBT community should take a long-view to this election and Senator Murray. One vote 14 years ago should not disqualify her from earning the votes of the WA LGBT community. LGBT members that discount candidates because of the single issue of gay rights are no better than conservative single-issue voters that discount candidates because of abortion rights. Candidates should be judged on the sum of their positions and record, and the sum of Patty Murray's record and positions reads pro-gay rights, pro-Washington state and pro-progressive governance. She has earned my vote.

Huh? "States rights"? Besides being patently anti-gay, DOMA was a HUGE usurpation of states rights.

@3 - exactly.

The idea that the left (and I include myself in this) can magically get anything and everything we want is stupid. The fact remains that this isn't a liberal country, and movement towards the left is slow.

However, losing pragmatic progressives (Sen. Patty Murray, Rep. Rick Larsen) would reverse the direction of things. We currently have successes under the current administration and Congress that need to be built up on. With the GOP in charge, that will not happen.

And @4 - correct!

Murray has supported Civil Unions, ENDA, repealing DADT, Hate Crimes legislation, etc, etc.

Take a look at Rossi's record when he was in the State Legislature, specifically his votes and stances on equal rights. There is a huge difference.

She's still pitching the whole aprica stroller on Greenlake yuppie wet dream of working at Microsoft and taking a Ballard Craftsman and adding 3 extra stories by jacking the roof up.

I really don't want to see creepy-smile Rossi get any office. But I am under no illusion that Patty Murray is a great Senator--just as I am under no illusion that a political group will get everything it wants. But SOMETHING would be nice! Haven't seen that yet.

Sen. Murray screwed up on the DADT vote and she has steadfastly refused to acknowledge that. It was not a trivial screw up. It reaches fundamental principles.

Her reasoning is BS. See comment 5.

She owes our community (not just LGBTs) an apology and should own up to her gross mistake.

Voting is one thing. I am an activist. I work for candidates that I think are good. And I help raise money for them. If Patty Murray wants more than a vote for me, she going to have to fess-up. Is Sen. Murray too big to apologize?

@ 18 As an "activist" I would think you would understand that compromise and working with politicians is how an "activist" achieves their goals. Senator Murray is working to repeal DADT and has been a strong ally of the LGBT community; your "activism" would be better served by actively working for her reelection rather than passively working for Rossi's election. PS @ 5 is referencing DOMA not DADT.

THE ONLY REASON WHY SHE WANTS OUR VOTE IS BECAUSE SHE COULD NEVER GET A JOB DOING ANYTHING ELSE. VOTE FOR HER AND GET ANOTHER 6 YEARS OF STUPIDITY.
