Another reason to visit Chicago.

No no no no no no no no no. Michael Darling has gone a long ways towards changing SAM from a fusty institution to a vibrant, sexy art museum that actually has interesting stuff to say about art and culture and contemporary life. His exhibitions make me feel excited and proud that SAM is here in our city.

Where will we find someone with the same vision to replace him? Damn. This is unhappy news.

What a bummer, he's been behind the only interesting shows at SAM these last few years (barring the Cobain thing -- wish he'd take that one with him). Hopefully they'll replace him with someone just as creative.

Congrats to Mr. Darling. He was a colleague at UC Santa Barbara. Go Gauchos.
5
wait wait wait.. how can he be both modern *and* contemporary? it's a paradox.

The cobain thing is the most embarrassing thing I have ever heard of.

I agree with #2 & #3 100% (although I haven't seen or have any reaction to the Cobain exhibit). Please SAM, don't lose sight of Mr. Darling's energy and vision in your search. It is only with his addition to SAM that I have any had interest in repeatedly revisiting the museum. After years in the Twin Cities, having been spoiled by the Walker, I know that SAM can continue to do so much more. Granted it's all a matter of personal taste, but...

Please wait...
