Nice one. You used to be able to just walk right in to Widener Library at Harvard and see both their First Folio and Gutenberg Bible in glass cases there in the hallway. I don't think you can anymore.

My only quibble with the review is the concept of a "dull bibliography". Bibliographies are almost always the most exciting things imaginable. To me, at any rate.

Nice job, Enigma, you've sold another copy here.

You're gonna make me blush, Paul.
I just love getting the chance to tell people my opinion on books. I've always been a bibliophile and can't think of a better activity during a slow moment at work than putting together a book review.
Next time I'm in DC, I'm making a bee-line for the Folger Library.

And Fnarf, not all bibliographies are dull, but the vast majority are just indexes of books that I wouldn't call riveting. I've found some great reads by going over the bibliographies, but I don't usually recommend them as part of the story.

Yay, only two holds on the library's six copies so far! Thanks, Enigma.

@2, I DO call them riveting. Lists of books, you say? God, a shiver just went up my spine thinking about it. Which is why I am a dork and you are an Enigma (and a fine reviewer).

Oh, you'll LOVE the Folger, Enigma - aside from all the other goodies there's an open First Folio under glass in the main hallway, just past the entrance/gift shop. The day I was there, I was the sole tourist and basically got to look at it unperturbed for as long as I cared to stand there. If ever a piece of bound vellum could be said to contain magic, this was certainly one that felt like it should.

I wish you that same experience when you get the chance.

Enigma, how would you rate the book on its friendliness towards those of us who have a lot (& I mean A LOT) of trouble deciphering Shakespearian English?
7
@6 There's almost no Shakespearean English in the book. This is a very accessible book that may give you a greater appreciation of all that undecipherable poetry. :-)

Please wait...
