Should state senators be looking out for the whole country? No, they shouldn't. But this isn't a state senator.

He's a member of the US Senate, not the Massachusetts state senate.

Of COURSE he should care about this stupid country.

Yeah! Just ask:

1)Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) got an estimated $300 million in extra federal spending

2)Sen. Carl Levin (D-MI) got insurance companies in his state off the hook from a new $7 billion dollar tax

3)Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-VT) dropped his concerns after Senator Reid offered his state a $10 billion grant for "community health centers"

4)Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT) got his kickback -- a $100 million bonus for the University of Connecticut

4)Pennsylvania, New York and Florida -- all won protections for their Medicare Advantage beneficiaries at a time when the program is facing cuts nationwide.

5)Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA), chairman of the Senate health committee, got a provision inserted to increase Medicare payments to certain "low-volume hospitals"

Sure.
we need more Senators like the one from Nebraska looking out for us.....

There is a number of philosophies when it comes to democratic republic styles of governance. Do you elect someone to represent your ideas or someone who has your ideas? Does he represent your district or the country? This has ben the push and pull since 1789.

So Stevie,
you think Mass should pay for their own comprehensive state health care system and then joyously pay for the other states' federal coverage as well?

really?
6
What I don't get is why Massachusetts can't just dismantle their system if it's replaced by a Federal one. Everyone keeps talking like they HAVE to pay for both systems. The new Federal system wouldn't be implemented instantly, they'd have time to transition...

People are just fucking stupid.

He is hot in a vanilla porn star way.

I give up on politics. They're all just rich sons of bitches who are looking out for one person only..themselves. All of them.

The only things D.C needs is a huge condom (metaphorically speaking) to deal with this dude.

Now that there is nothin more to worry about, this situation has the potential of making the Dems more resolute in passing the reforms they were elected to implement. The President has already made clear that's what he intends to do.

No doubt some of our Brothers in Velvet voted for Senatard Pron Star ’cause they wanna take a ride on his disco stick.

And who could blame them? I’d hit that so hard, he’d honk like a goose.

Seriously, "I am a different kind of Republican"? Uh, Scott? George W. Bush called; he wants his total lying bullshit campaign slogan back.
13
Come on, if you didn't mind spending 17 percent of your GDP on health care and insurance, you're going to love spending 30 percent!

meanwhile our competitors in Canada, Japan, and the EU will eat our shorts by spending only 8 percent on average.

Got Debt? Thank the GOP!

Massachusetts has a health care plan that is managed by Massachusetts, not by the Federal Government. What he is suggesting, is that each state can manage their own health care plans and that having the Federal Government run a national health care plan is a BAD IDEA for EVERY AMERICAN, as well as for the people of Massachusetts. He is looking out for ALL Americans! If you could get past thinking he's wrong no matter what he says, maybe, just maybe you might hear what he actually DID say, and maybe just maybe be intelligent enough to understand it.

He looks like a slightly stupider version of Dubya.

Slog reader rationale: A congress member thinks most healthcare decisions should be made by the state, not the Feds = this congress member wants to SCREW the rest of America! Republicans are evil!!!

Maybe the fact that the bluest of blue states, which hasn't had a R in that seat since 1972 elects this guy, who campaigned on the promise to thwart this monstrosity of a government takeover, is more an indication that people don't want this piece of &*$# forced on them???

nah. republicans are just evil, evil humans. that's much easier a pill for everyone on here to swallow.
