I know that i haven't seen any post here concerning any coming from California, and you better believe that Dan would be going berserk blogging about them endlessly had there been so much goin on. The only one that I've seen here as of recently that could be construed as a possible crime is the one about the kid in Portorico, hardly California tho.

Thanks for posting this, Dan. It's really amazing. I have NEVER heard of anyone getting beat up for being christian in this country, but i read about anti-gay beatings and killings every week on sites like Towleroad.

The remaining 4% targeted LGBT-oriented organizations as opposed to individuals. Sexual orientation-motivated crimes were violent in 73%
of the cases, a greater proportion than for racial- (68%) or religious- (28%) motivated crimes. Simple assaults constituted 35%, aggravated assaults 25%, vandalisms 23%, and acts of intimidation 11%.

@15 I read the link Dan provided and I also read yours and it clearly says:

"The majority of these hate crimes were racially-motivated (61%)"

It talks about how hate crimes against individuals self identified as homosexuals have risen "21%" but what it doesn't say in either is what are they identifying as hate crimes against said individuals? They don't cite the cases or at least some examples of factual incidents that arose in the aftermath of Prop 8. There are quite a few that have been well documented against religious institutions by those opposing the work that was done by people of faith. But i have yet to read about one committed against homosexuals that is directly linked to the Passage of prop 8.

@ 17, that's because passage of Prop 8 assuaged your side. Your people (by which I mean bigots, not African Americans) would have gone apeshit if it failed. You don't go beating up gays when you've won an important election victory against them.

See, this is why it's so hard to take the Christian faith seriously. A real Christian would have been shocked to hear of the violence perpetrated in Jesus' name. But the political Christians using gays as a wedge issue to drive bigots out to vote only care about splitting hairs over statistics and looking for how this impacts their political position on marriage. Who cares who gets hurt or killed in the process?

Meanwhile, social cons keep trying to wrap themselves in the mantle of victimhood. Rod Dreher kept the fires burning this month with two separate postings of the same footage of a peaceful, if noisy, demonstration against Christian zealots in the Castro from a year ago.

That's literally the best they can come up with: recycling the exact same year-old Youtube video over and over again as they whine and cry about how oppressed they are.

If people weren't getting beaten in the fucking streets, it would be almost comical. As it is, it's just pathetic how meaningless their so-called faith becomes as soon as a chance to bash gays turns up.

There was another group of hate crimes prompted by Proposition 8, the constitutional amendment that banned same-sex marriages. The public debate around Prop 8 triggered 9 anti-lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT) crimes. 5 of these crimes were acts of vandalism in which opponents of Prop 8 had their property targeted by homophobic (and in 1 case, anti-black) graffiti. In addition, there were 4 violent crimes.

Also, what do you suppose the number of minorities in Los Angeles County is? Do you think that number might be larger than the number of gays and lesbians?
