What are the pros and cons of Mike McGinn? What are the pros and cons of Joe Mallahan?
2
No pros... all cons... naive idealist vs. corporate shill.

You-all might want to change the name of "The Morning News" to "The Morning Opinion" if you feel the need to call one of the mayoral candidates an "Idiot". I'm not inclined to vote for him either but he doesn't qualify for that epithet. ("stealth-republican" ...maybe)

Corp vp, and his Corp lawyer battle it out to be king of the liberal elite.
Big business manager vs non-profit lawyer that profited from every major developer in this city by green washing their investments.

Good luck.

As much as I think Peter Steinbruek is a spongy self-absorbed glory-hound, he clearly would have been a better choice.

"stealth-republican"? Are you kidding, he is sooooooo freaking liberal. The "Righties" at my office were drawn to McGinn's desire to not spend money on the tunnel (until he prposed spending money on everything else, free light rail for all!). McGinn will get quite a few Republican voting for him (or, what passes for Republican in Seattle).

There was a nationwide drug bust this week, 300 people arrested.
From the article
U.S. authorities have targeted La Familia for 44 months. Under the effort, called Project Coronado, the federal government has arrested 1,186 people and seized $32.8 million, 2,710 pounds of methamphetamine, 1,999 kilograms of cocaine, 29 pounds of heroin, 16,390 pounds of marijuana, 389 weapons and 269 vehicles.

Slog is now criticizing Obama on health care...kind of slipped into it bit by bit....still not daring to name him by name when criticizing....

really, why in heck didn't he go organize montana and maine and nevada for public option 6starting six months ago?

nice to see him supporting deval and dodd and corzine but really, why doesn't he go to freaking nevada and hold a big ass rally for public option?

to maine?

fill the stadium in freaking Baton Rouge, there's plenty of folks down there that need public option they still don't even have a full hospital in NOLA he could get Landrieu to support robust public option if he worked it.

On the plus side, it would probably take only a handful of horribly botched private executions to get the U.S. to finally abolish the death penalty.

Look, I'm as egalitarian as the next runner, and it's not asshole behavior to ask runners to be finished by a certain, reasonable time. The NY Times article wasn't saying that no one should ever walk during a marathon. They're simply saying that the purpose of the event is to RUN, and if you're going to walk (plod, amble, traipse) the entire course, you're probably better suited to events that make that possible- 5Ks or even 10Ks, without tying up the entire course and race volunteers. And if you need a race mumu in lieu of a race jersey, maybe you start a little easier and work your way up, so that when you do get it, you'll have actually earned it by RUNNING 26 miles...

#2: I don't understand why some people brand McGinn a "naive idealist." Portland opened their 4th light rail line this year. Vancouver BC opened their 3rd light rail line this year. San Francisco opened their 7th light rail line in 2007. We're still working on our 1st, to be opened in 2023. McGinn just wants us to catch up and become an average west coast city in regards to transit.

McGinn's other ideas aren't naive idealism either. Even freaking Pittsburgh has made broadband access a public utility.

Seattle should be a leader in progressive government, but right now we're way behind.

@ 9..Right there with you. Personally,I only run to chase the ice cream truck..but coming from a familiy of "ELITIST A-HOLE RUNNERS" (Sorry Dad and Kristin..The Times said it not me..I love you and your obsessive health) I kind of have to agree.
Seems like some people just want so badly to say "I finished a marathon". Baby steps, people.

@11 and 9, I blame Oprah when she "finished" a marathon a few years ago by what amounted to walking it. And it is a well documented fact that the Boston Marathon starts nearly two hours earlier than it did 15 years ago: not due to more runners but due to the fact it takes that much longer to get people to wander past the finish line.

Please wait...
