I like how the stars are starting to form a check mark, especially since the designer has mentioned that the stars will show up on the flag in the position that reflects when the state achieved statehood.
Wonder if the "check mark" pattern could be predictive of which states might be next to grant marriage equality.
1. better than a rainbow flag. makes me think of neapolitan ice cream.
2. don't get the arrangement of those stars, is this a new constellation? geographical? random?
3. in general don't even mess with the flag, it's better to wrap yourself in the usa flag and define your opponents as not entitled to it......"gay marriage = American liberty" probably better than "America is wrong, perverted, fucked up" as a message point.
I think the order of the stars on the flag are in order of each state achieving statehood...or I'm completely miss-remembering 3rd grade social studies.
I'm not sure there's actually a defined order of the stars, but considering new stars have been added as new states entered the union it's possible to at least simulate the proper order of stars.
The stripes represent the 13 original colonies. The field of blue with white stars is the Union Jack. The red and white stripes are the Naval Jack.
Red signifies valor and bravery (or like the blood of the revolutionary soldiers).
White signifies purity.
Blue signifies vigilance, perseverance, & justice.
Huh, I guess I remember more about 3rd grade than I thought.
Today the flag consists of thirteen horizontal stripes, seven red alternating with 6 white. The stripes represent the original 13 colonies, the stars represent the 50 states of the Union. The colors of the flag are symbolic as well: Red symbolizes Hardiness and Valor, White symbolizes Purity and Innocence and Blue represents Vigilance, Perseverance and Justice.
OK, in everything said and linked so far there's no indication any particular star represents a particular state in that array of 50 stars (or previously when it was 48 or a lower number).
If it did, we'd likely all know here in Washington State (or Kansas, whatev.) "which" star is "ours."
also that check mark looks like the Big Dipper and we all know what THAT means on a flag....
@13, epic fail how? What I wrote is correct. Individual stars on the flag do not represent particular states, and they never have. There is not now, nor was there ever, a "Washington" star or a "Massachusetts" star or a "Kentucky" star.
@18: 68% of Alaskans are batshit crazy enough to amend their constitution to ban same-sex marriage. Reason enough for me not to want any association with the Big Dipper.
Well, Fnarf, when you make completely illogical and false statements, *intelligent* people will call you out on that bullshit. Being an aging, ave-rat doesn't qualify you for anything but being a douchebag. So go back to fucking your ugly ass lady, douchebag.

80% of the good people of my state voted to amend the state constitution to ban same sex marriage.
And civil union.
And not to recognize either from other states.
And we have a stripe on the "gay marriage" flag.
Sheesh. While I agree in patriotic lore or whatever, the stars do not represent particular states, it's obvious that here he's just doing them in alphabetical order left-to-right top-to-bottom. Alabama in the upper left, Wyoming in the lower right. Not that complicated.
I was watching a 1/2 hour presentation on Michael Jackson last night, and I was thinking...this guy is a 1980s Liberace. I mean, it's so obviously gay, so over the top mincing with doilies gay, that it brilliantly hides the gayness.
Like they bring on "Michael Jackson's Girlfriend From the Thriller Video". Remember that girl? No...of course not. You're gay. But every straight dude in the world remembers that girl in the black dress that Michael Jackson was singing to because she had the hottest bod ever.
So then, they ask her -- did you have sex with Michael? And she makes this excuse about how Michael couldn't because Brook Shields, his "real life girlfriend" was around and how could he do that!!
Seriously, all that was missing from Neverland was a candelabra!
But don't take my word on it. I call upon the experts.
Right, it's not complicated all you dumbasses. In the lower right you have Vt. which is really close to WY that's why in this design you have a star for Vt. there in the lower right corner. And that first star on the top row is obviously CT with IA next to it because the states of Delaware Georgia Florida Hawaii Illinois and Indiana just seceded didn't you know" It's not that complicated you dumb asses stop fighting the starts are in order representing states okay? It's not that complicated. Jus like the earth being flat IT'S NOT THAT COMPLICATED OK!!!!!
If you click on the link for "Flag of Equal Marriage" in David's post you'll see that the designer of this flag has added stars to reflect the order in which the state granting marriage equality was granted statehood.
If the placement is off, then you should bring it up with the flag designer. Also, his web site shows the earlier versions of the flag - as more states 'add' marriage equality more stars will be added to the Flag of Marriage Equality.
note, the placement is "off" it's like totally freaking off.
Stars nos. 5 6 9 14 23 and 29 do NOT show up in the form of that "check off" symbol -- da list is below. This flag design will be featured in the next Tufte book, "The visual display of misinformation."
