If she's convinced him that he is like everyone else, why does she think a woman with Down's is not good enough for him?
3
hey! i sent this to paul constant this morning. how 'bout some props, lovely lindy?
4
#1 nailed it.
5

@1 & 4

Yep!

6
... aren't people with Trisomy 21 generally infertile? I'm not sure I fully understand how he would get a girlfriend pregnant.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trisomy_21#…
7
@3: I just came across it by accident this afternoon. (Paul Constant never tells me anything.) But props be unto you!
8
Down Syndrome people are insatiably horny from puberty onward, and they don't have much filter or sense of what is appropriate.
9
@8 Sounds like every gay man I know! ZING!
10
So, when are you flying to England, Lindy?
11
I work with at-risk youth and know an 8 year old where both of the parents had Down's. He is messed up. They have no sense of boundaries and treat him like a pet. It's clear what she's thinking from the way she says, It shouldn't be a question of "can he get someone pregnant?" it's "can he be a good father?"
12
As I was reminded by that johns/escorts blog Paul posted a while back, there are plenty of (heterosexual) men without genetic abnormalities who never have girlfriends. A girlfriend is not a right, it is a privilege (or occasionally, I am sure, a curse).
13
oh Mr. Show....
14
11 ftw
Can Otto provide for a child?
Maybe his mom should get him a puppy.
15
2
Better yet, ask keshmeshi's mom...
16
does this mean i can stop reading slog and just read FARK?
17
What if it was a mother seeking a man to date and impregnate her Daughter? Would that be less acceptable?
18
@11, really? Wikipedia says there are only three known cases in human history where a male with Downs fathered a child.
19
@1 and @8 are the best.

That said, the lack of inhibitions is also correlated with progression of related diseases that impact the brain. It's not uncommon to have people with Down's also, as they age, develop AD and PD, among other things.

Given how our society has sexually active middle schoolers (also the target age for smoking and drinking initiation), sexual activity isn't that big a deal, so judging the mom seems unnecessarily harsh.

20
@ 12 - True, there's no "right" to have a gf/bf or even a "right" to get laid, but jeez, I'd say he *deserves* it, wouldn't you? Poor kid has to deal with having DS, and all that goes with it (including reduced life expectancy). Considering his disability cuts down on his possibilities with women, what's wrong with his mom helping him find a gal so he can lose his virginity? I actually think it's kind of sweet.

I bet this happens more often than you think, it just doesn't filter up to the media.

Oh, and birth control all around, if necessary.
21
Sounds like mom is volunteering to raise her own grandchild. Also, she's a bit of douche to discriminate against other downs people.
22
While some dispute is raised over the actual "winner" in the oldest profession in the world, perhaps a key element to today's version actually focuses more on the second oldest profession in the world...
( granting of course first/oldest professional status ),

and that of course would be the " broker" .

Here's a rare form of liberalism and compassion...

Is it compassion only a mother and a kind hearted "well-woman" could appreciate?
23
Okay, ma, get the kid a hooker. The video is terrible. DD parents are hilarious? Take it down, Lindy.
24
Mom needs to butt out and let sonny find a way to negotiate for his own hookers, like any other 21 year old virgin.

Either that or get him a calf to raise as a 4-H project.
25
"everyone would have an opinion on it"

And everyone should not give a shit, he's doing no harm.
26
Wiki can only be trusted so far...

From Smith's Recognizable Patterns of Human Malformation, 6th Edition, copyright 2006: regarding those with Trisomy 21, or Down Syndrome, "fertility has rarely been reported in females, no male has reproduced."

The woman adopted him, so why doesn't she just adopt some grandbabies?
27
The alleys of the internet are filled with the most depraved shit you'd ever want to see. How come I've never see a niche for low IQ, differently-abled, or 'retard' porn? Dan?
28
Wow, finally a date for Lindy who'll think she's really smart and stuff.
29
My understanding from when I worked with Down Syndrome men at a group home in the early '90s is that their sperm counts are so low that the risk of impregnating a woman is infinitesimal. Sorry I don't have a source to back it up (that factoid was part of my orientation when I started) but it is consistent with what others have shared.

That said, he should use a condom just like any other 21 year old man, genetic abnormality or not, who is not ready at this stage of his life to become a father. And if he or his mom hires a hooker there are plenty of other reasons to have protection as well.
30
@23 "The video is terrible"? Really? Mr. Show is one of the most critically acclaimed and influential comedy shows of all time. I swear to God no one in this town has a fucking sense of humor any more.

I'M STRONG LIKE THE HULK!
31
My aunt is DD, got married at age 40 to a real geek who was henpecked by his mother. When his mother finally died a couple of years later, they had a great life together, traveled all over, had lots of friends (no kids though). He dropped dead of a heart attack after 20 years of marriage. He was not a saint for marrying her, they had their ups and downs, but we miss him (especially my aunt). And no, my grandmother did not make a video searching for husbands for her daughter. They met at some community college class. (My grandmother did leave them pretty well off, though.)
32
Didn't Howard Stern already do this?
33
@26: Really?! Fertility is rare in women with Down's? I knew a woman with Down's who had a kid. The rest of the family did the hard work of raising him, and he seemed about as fucked up as any other kid his age. No more, no less.
34
And aren't there people called "sexual surrogates" who fuck disabled people?
35
Anonymous extends its hand in friendship. We feel your pain.
http://helpotto.webs.com/
Lets get otto laid.
36
Where the fuck do these nutjobs get off thinking having a kid is like some kind of fucking successful bout with a Lego set? "Oooh ooh lookie what *I* made!!!"
Just what we need - more people having kids so someone feels fucking validated. If this woman adopted this Down's kid, maybe SHE'S the one that needs the validation. What a dumb fuck.
37
What a world this would be, if every mother were so eager to help their son (or daughter) lose their virginity.
38
@16, you mustn't ever give up the Fark.
39
As much as I hate to defend the Daily Mail, there's nothing wrong with the punctuation on that page, at least in British styling.
40
''I would also love it if Otto got a girlfriend pregnant. It's another experience everyone else goes through so why not him?"

Because he has Down's Syndrome, that's why. Because, having a child isn't something that you do simply because everyone else is doing it too. Because, the ability to do something, isn't sufficient justification to do it.

Get the boy a dog. If he fucks that up, at least you can put the dog down. You can't put down the fucked up spawn that will invariably be the result of this ill-minded baby fantasy.
41
Luckily...

There have been only three recorded instances of males with Down syndrome fathering children.[43][44]

43. Sheridan R, Llerena J, Matkins S, Debenham P, Cawood A, Bobrow M (1989). "Fertility in a male with trisomy 21". J Med Genet 26 (5): 294–8. PMID 2567354.
44. Pradhan M, Dalal A, Khan F, Agrawal S (2006). "Fertility in men with Down syndrome: a case report". Fertil Steril 86 (6): 1765.e1–3. doi:10.1016/j.fertnstert.2006.03.071. PMID 17094988.
42
I think the mother can talk to a psychologist to find out about group meetings for special people like himself.

Do you see where I' am going here? how he will find people like himself their?

Her son has a much better chance if he is aware.

Once he is aware put him with some other female his age who has
down syndrome as well, who may be looking for a mate, in the same
room or meeting.

Im 21 and never had a boyfriend, been on a date or kissed a man before. Im so lonely. I get depressed sometimes.....i had depression when i was younger. Ive since battled with anxiety and self conciousness. Im normal...not down sydrome or anything like that.

Some people in my area have found out and teased me....some felt sorry, but its mainly ridicule that i get.

People have always said im pretty with a nice figure. I havent had many friends since i was 16 and i was a recluse for about 5 years. I actually never spoke to anyone for a year once....im not used to socializing which is why i feel awkward if i do ever go out to a club/bar. I feel inadequate like i dont really belong there.

I feel left behind...people i know have partners and it feels like im missing out. I feel so lonely and feel like crying at times. I hate living in everyone else's shadow....they all have their lives and i havent got mine yet.

I dont want to pay for sex....i think that is pointless. I dont want to just rid my virginity...i want a partner who will actually have a real relationship with me.

44
Yea lady, normal people can bang because we know the consequences if we have a baby, and plus a girl wouldn't want to seek a dude with downs.
If he wants to see women in bikinis why not take him down to bondi beach its close to where I live, tons of hot chicks there. Just tell him not to rape any of em.
45
Men with down's syndrome can't reproduce. Only woman can, and the chances of that girl with down's syndrome baring a child with the same mutation, are 50%. The doctor should've told you this. I'm 18 and I know this, so how is it possible that you don't?

Please wait...
