Youth Pastor Watch

Virginia:

A Green County man was sentenced Friday to 10 years in federal prison for using a computer to entice a Madison County girl to engage in sexual activity. Timothy Scott Richerson, 40, of Greensburg, admitted in July in U.S. District Court that he met the victim, a 14-year-old girl, on a MySpace page where he represented himself as a16-year-old male…

In September of 2007, Richerson—a former youth minister at Freedom Baptist Church in Campbellsville—traveled from his home to the victim’s residence, according to a press release from the U.S. District Attorney’s Office.

Richerson then picked up the victim and drove her to a nearby location where they kissed. Six days later, he again made the trip to Madison County. “They went on a motorcycle ride together and when they were alone together, the defendant digitally penetrated the 14-year-old female and she rubbed his penis,” the plea agreement states.

Now, see, here we have a slight problem.

Don't get me wrong, I gleefully enjoy these posts, and the hyprocrisy they expose. However, in this case, it says that it was SIX DAYS AFTER she met this guy - at which point one would think it would have been pretty obvious to her that the dude was 40 (or at the very least nowhere near 16) - that the shit went down. And I'm sorry, but that puts an entirely different spin on things.

Is this guy kind of a creep? Well, duh, yes, But in cases like this, a detailed side of the story from this apparently hot and horny 14 year old girl is every bit as germane to the story, and needs to be investigated and reported on along with anything to do with him.

@1: A 14-year old cannot meaningfully consent. A responsible adult knows this. It is clear the victim was lied to, and manipulation or coercion is not unlikely given the deception in the initial contact. It is problematic to ask a 14-year old to understand exactly what happened and explain it to others for a lot of reasons. I can't think of any reason to defend the accused based on what I have read here.

And I don't "gleefully enjoy" these posts, but they do help solidify my misanthropy.

@2 - With all due respect, you're full of shit. 10? maybe not. 14? Online, and with enough sense (in the practicalities sense) to hook up with some dude, no matter what their (real) age? It must be nice there in Disneyland there, where you apparently reside.

We're sorry, your call did not go through. Please check your argument, and try again.

@1: Reading your comment again, I'm really not sure where you are getting "hot and horny" from. You don't have any idea what was said or promised to the victim. Personally, I'd guess "confused and unwilling to say no to an adult who says everything will be fine." He's more than "kind of" a creep, #1.

I think it's the six days part you're not really factoring into the equation. Among other things.
