The front page of newspapers from around the world. Awesome. Scroll down to get past the English-speaking parts of the world. (Thanks, Superfrankenstein!)...

Comment by Bento

The following comments were posted to Slog following the Australian Prime Minister's apology to the Stolen Generation on 12 February 2008:

This apology was the very first item of business for the new Labor government, and is truly a wonderful thing.

Perhaps the most uplifting part, for me (a non-Aboriginal Aussie), is that after 11 years of stubborn resistance from our disgraceful former-PM, this apology has been eagerly anticipated by a wide section of the nation, and does not appear to be generating much of a redneck backlash.

For the first time in quite a while, I have been able to read international news reports about my home, without feeling shame.

Bento @13: we'll be joining you on November 4th.
Once again, Fnarf was right. On behalf of the world, thank you, America.

I came over to Europe when I was 21, in the first year of the Bush administration. My entire adult life has been framed by this administration and the Europeans' reaction to it. I have never told anyone that I came from America. I would always say I'm from San Francisco or California; these places usually have positive connotations. But today, after passing the news stand in the train station and seeing all those dozens and dozens of Obama portraits staring out at me from every single front page from around the world, I introduced myself for the first time as an American.
