it's only our regressive notion of race that makes obama "black". he's not. he's bi-racial.

that's why hegel is full of crap. there's nothing inevitable about history, she fucked up by being lame, that's why she lost. or better said, that's why she caused mccain to lose.

It's interesting, in the context that Charles brings up here, that Obama isn't a descendant of the Africans whose labor was stolen from them to build America's capital, but rather he's a direct descendant of an African native.

Will that make his presidency more ironic than if "America's first black president" had been a true "African American," i.e., a descendant of the Middle Passage?

Charles you would be an ideologue if you weren't such a flake.

So exactly what kind of "flake" is Charles? Frosted or metallic? Defend your thesis, Trevor, defend your thesis. ;)

If you want a philosophical referent for Ms Palin, I'd suggest Kant's infamous parrot (which is perceived as beautiful because it serves no human purpose). Ms Palins repetition of political cliches was so far removed from Geist that it hardly makes sense to see her as in any way involved in it's history.

Actually the White House was built by descendant's of his wife's people.

Which is why he should let her pick out the new sofa and the drapes.

to laconically dismiss hegel (for example) is tiresome.

I humbly apologize for the extraneous apostrophe.

FYI -- Only the outside walls are part of the original structure. The whole thing was gutted and rebuilt during the Truman Admin (hence, the Truman Balcony) before it fell down.

For some reason, post-election Palin makes me think of that (black) woman who ran as vice president with Buchanan on the Reform-Entryist ticket in 00.

What the fuck was her name again?

(Exactly.)
