one day more!
Very uplifting. Aretha was so good back then. I feel a little sad when I see her perform these days, so it's good to remember what a brilliant performer she was, and why she's a legend in her own time. I totally forgot she played the piano.
Sister Rosetta Tharpe is a great uplifting watch, too. This woman blows me away.

(I ain't gonna study war no more!)
My friends, this great nation of ours has become a cesspool of iniquity under the rule of godless liberals.
During the past eight years, the tax-and-spend Hollywood liberals in Washington D.C. have transformed America from a shing city on a hill into a 3,000 mile wide porno theater.
For too long, we've suffered an endless shower of spooge upon the floor of our great nation. The time has come for real change. The time has come to mop up the cum.
Mop up the cum, America!
Vote McCain/Palin on Nov. 4!
I would, if I were you.
Bailo, I asked you the other day where you're hiding all the good porn. Either put up or shut up. I don't like you hiding the good stuff. It's un-American of you.
Can we please pass a law banning robo-calls?
Stranger Staffers:
When are we going to get an "ignore" function on these comments? I *need* to be able to ignore Bailo. I have a doctor's note.
My favorite: Big Mama Thornton singing "Hound Dog" (which she wrote):
No No No. I'm wrong about who wrote Hound Dog. It was written by Lieber and Stoller. I meant to say that she was the first one to make it a hit.
Thank you, thank you, thank you David Schmader.
The Aretha Franklin video may be the only think that keeps me sane for the next 24 hours.
Juan @2, to be fair, that video is almost 40 years old. The Rolling Stones aren't looking all that hot these days either.
Some more uplifting songs:

Last week I became addicted to the video of her singing "I Say a Little Prayer" from that same show. Amazing shit.
Thanks for bringing up the New Yorker article. They definitely explain how the teen pregnancy happens (and ridiculously high STD rates), but don't really explain why it's OK in the minds of evangelicals. It just seems like such a contradiction from the abstinence only preaching, but that's nothing new.
where was the rest of the band? and the orchestra?

Aretha blows me away every single time I hear her music. Every. Single. Time. She was an exceptional talent. Thanks for posting the video.
