Any graph that requires that much explanation is probably not helpful.

Keep in mind, the text is what conveys the critical information about where the votes are. The final purple and blue and red blotch at the end just restates that.

A good graph would have communicated the idea first without needing all those words.

I like it when they run through a range of different ways to look at the same data; it's so much more multidimensional that way.
