Reading Today

Joel Magnuson is reading at Elliott Bay Book Company from Mindful Economics: How the U.S. Economy Works, Why It Matters, and How It Could Be Different. A few months ago, you’d probably be all like “Doo-doo-doo, whatever,” as you rolled around in your real-estate millions, but now you’re all like “O rly?” Welcome to the new economy.

And at the Seattle Public Library, Douglas Smith reads from The Pearl: A True Tale of Forbidden Love in Catherine the Great’s Russia. It’s about an opera singer’s tormented secret marriage. Which sounds interesting, and also sounds like it’ll be neutered into an Oscarbait movie in two years, starring Ellen Page in her first serious career misstep.

The full readings calendar, including the next week or so, is here.

That "O rly?" bit made me laugh out loud. This is a very snarky Reading Today, Paul. I don't care about all the "But this sci-fi/nature/boring-ass-shit author is incredible, how dare you not like them/have never hated yourself enough to read their books?" people; I'd like to see Reading Today be a little more sassy.
