max, that would entail doing actual journalism. Half the staff are alcoholics, the other potheads. and between them they manage to slap together a paper once a week. the real heros of the stranger reside in the advertising department.

Let the Stranger go daily. Divide the city into 9 boxes like tic-tac-toe Hire nine reporters and three at large reporters for South and West, North, and East of the city.
Tada, instant daily news that the PI and Times do not cover. Why do small cities of less than 50,000 people (that is still a lot of people) get better, RELEVANT, daily local news coverage of their issues than Seattle?

Dan, you are assuming (falsely) that the down fall of the print media is circulation and content, but it's not.
It has far more to do with the rising cost of news print, the lack of expanding print ad revenue and the non-existence of online ad revenue.
Readership is up for most online media sources, the trouble is no one wants to see ads on the web and no one is willing to pay for ads on the web.
Maybe the Times needs to look at escort and tobacco advertising like the Stranger does.

Here's my memo to Frank: Sell to Hearst and get yourself and your stupid children the fuck out of this state while you still have a newspaper to sell.
It sounds like they have a bad case of the obsessive irrational stubborn streak that afflicts too many Seattle citizens and institutions, which could be summarized as "we're going to keep doing things the way we've always done them because we can't be bothered to pay attention or keep up with changing times, and we're going to keep doing this no matter what or until we drive over a cliff - and we may even keep doing things the same even then as we freefall to certain death" . . . or something like that.
They need a page 2 or 3 sunshine girl as well.
