wow the cops did what they are supposed to do instead of acting like a bunch of military thugs. They do their job correctly and we're supposed to slob their knobs?

It's a shame no cops were killed last night...right slog?

SPD has some work to do in the CD, also, but they were first class last night and I saw lots of people stopping to talk with the cops, thank them and ask questions. SPD even had their public info officer out on the scene hanging around for the journalism pros and wannabes.

It also helps that the crowd was partying in the street one minute, standing patiently in line to buy beer from the robocheckers in QFC the next.

That's not it at all. The cops are there on behalf of the people, the fact that it's a big deal if they don't act like morons isn't really a good sign. Cops are regular people just like us, they shouldn't be worshipped and they shouldn't be lionized. They should be analyzed.

All things considered, SPD did an admirable job of - just standing around - which, in this instance was probably the best thing they could have done. The crowd was completely celebratory, not in the least unruly, and the one time an emergency vehicle DID have to pass through, everyone simply moved out of the way in an orderly fashion, then flowed right back in its wake.

And best of all, none of the cops even attempted to confiscate beers, or in my case, a half-glass of Woodford on-the-rocks.

shout out to the Madison, WI PD too, they handled the spontaneous crowd extremely well, stopping traffic and hanging back to let the peaceful marchers go

I'm no cop, but it seems like it'd be much easier to contain a happy crowd, and more controversy-prone to contain a protest or riot. That said, it seems entirely appropriate to congratulate the police, given the spirit of the past 12 hours.

Mad props to the cops. Additional props to the QFC workers overwhelmed by the revelers, Shell station employees, and that drag queen atop Neighbours! Wooo!!!

thank you seattle police for having the werewithal not to sob like fucking girls as your pretty boy, greaseball candidate gets his ass handed to him by the governor of our state. thank you to every officer in the guild for not taking your petty self-righteous rage out on the citizens of our fine city as we celebrate the election of a woman you sought to undermine. thank you, all of you, for just being you.

I thought of Tuba Man last night. I bet he would have been out playing in the streets. :(

Props to the cops - they did a great job. As one of the revelers dancing in the streets downtown, it was great that they didn't overreact as we took over the streets and ignored traffic rules.

@13
Amen. "Hail to the Chief" would have sounded really nice on a contrabass tuba. Wonder what kind of hat Ed would have worn.

Agreed, the cops were great. Felt like they were on our side, which is not how crowd situations usually feel.
