Thanks for posting this one. I'm a Seattle expat, but it makes me happy to see Obama-revelers in the streets a block from where I used to live.

As sad as I am to miss this, in my hometown of Seattle, I can't tell you what the emotions are like in NYC. I live in a prominent African-American community and people are just in a state of bliss.

What I most remember is 4 years ago at the state Dems' party. By 8 o'clock, it was utterly funereal, everyone was in total shock. We were wandering around the hospitality suites, which were all dark, silent, deserted. It was horribly depressing. We had a hotel room on the 32nd floor, and it's a damned good thing the windows didn't open. We were not emotionally prepared for that.

This...oh, this feels...oh, this feels like vindication. If only Prop 8 and Saxby Chambliss had lost, my life would be complete. But jeebus, I'm not complaining!

I was there five minutes ago. A man climbed up the traffic pole and sat on top of the "Walk" sign to get a better picture. A police car backed slowly out of the press of people -- I didn't even know there was a police car in there -- with a black man sitting on the hood, whooping. The crowd yelled back. It was wonderful.

I just got home from Pike/Bway. It was just incredible - the most loving, happy street party evah. Traffic was allowed through, a guy was handing out Rainier beers to whoever, fireworks were being set off, and everyone was hugging, giving high fives, and smiling to each other in the way that Capitol Hill denizens really just don't on an average day. Absolutely incredible.

Of course as soon as I got home my friends called to tell me I missed an impromptu parade on Broadway. Drat!!
