Omahamobama

posted by on November 6 at 13:13 PM

It looks like Obama might pick up one more electoral vote by winning the Omaha area of Nebraska. It will be the first time a state has split its electoral vote for a candidate. McCain tried to do the same thing in the northern half of Maine, but Obama won the entire state easily. Repeat: Obama won part of Nebraska. Holy fucking shit.

NC, NE, NM, hmmm, can I buy another N?

Plus, for good measure, add in an OR senator ...

The electoral college makes no sense! Everything should be decided by popular vote.

Um, this will not be the first time a state has split its electoral vote. It was very very common before the 1900's. Michigan and North Dakota did it in 1892, for example.

Addendum: Alabama split its vote 6 to Byrd, 5 to JFK in 1960 as well.

Holy fucking shit indeed. For us little blue dots floating in a sea of red (literally on game days), seeing that blue square on fivethirtyeight.com is the best we could hope for here in our state. Oh, NE also voted to abolish affirmative action in state hiring this election.

Greetings from Obamaha! it's nowhere near as bad as some here claim. I wish our local weekly (the reader) carried savage love, though.

and yeah, that uncle ward connerly sponsored initiative sucked. a lot of people were confused about what they were voting for.

That's wonderful news. It almost makes me take back all the horrible things I have said about Omaha over the years.

Almost.

Actually, I wouldn't mind Omaha if they didn't have this annoying habbit of tearing every single interesting thing in town down.
