Slog - Comments on McCain's Speech

The Stranger Election Control Board can't hear most of it through the crowd noise at the Showbox, but what we can hear sounds gracious and sincere. McCain specifically mentioned his admiration for Obama, what he's accomplished, and the profound change that he has brought about by becoming the first African-American president of the United States. Also, he thanked Sarah Palin... and was immediately drowned out by Showbox boos as her face flashed on screen....

OK, I heard booing during McCain's speech, right?

I turned to FOX and the guy (I want to say Major Garrett) said around 11:32EST that during the speech the crowd was very appreciative of what McCain was saying and "that at no time was the crowd booing."

But I heard booing, at least 3 times, like when McCain said Obama won. Didn't you?

@3 - Yeah, there was definitely booing. I heard it about 3 times as well. McCain actually looked to be fairly pissed. He also looked like he was going to go out in the crowd and beat the guys who were chanting "Palin! Palin! Palin!". Then at the end when McCain shook the Palins' hands I thought he was ready to whip it out and pig blap both of them on the spot. He didn't even make eye contact with Todd.

If that McCain had run with a semi-competent VP it might have been a different story. Instead he's destroyed his reputation.

Heather, there was indeed booing. McCain put up his hands and said, "Please, please" and they settled down, but some of his supporters did indeed boo.

And to them, I say, kiss my liberal ass.

McCain was decent, gracious, and honorable in his speech. Any booing was quickly quashed by McCain himself. That's called class. Say what you want about Palin, but John McCain deserves some respect.

I just wish he'd tried the "Double Maverick" at the last minute. :)

Congratulations to Obama! He now has the worst possible job in the world. Can you imagine???

Yes, there was booing. Senator McCain gave a heartfelt, sincere and very respectful speech, and his own supporters did not want to hear that. They wanted more of the "hate" speech so eloquently provided by his running mate, and they did not get that. I really need to stop crying and laughing at the same time, and actully dust my house, but all I keep doing is watching President-elect Obama's Grant Park speech, and the moment, on MSNBC when the polls closed in the West, and at 11:01 est, it was over. My SAT word for the day? Yippee!!!!!!!!!!

Few people seemed to notice Palin getting booed during McCain's concession speech. Am I imagining it? Below's a link to the clip; he introduces her around 6 minutes in. She seemed shaken by that to me; not just by losing.

I heard Fox scrubbed the boos out of their concession speech video but haven't checked yet. If true, how lame.

I believe I heard them chanting "We Love John! And yes, there were definitely Boo's coming from the crowd of supporters. However, the sincerity in his speech easily dismissed all of that. For the first time, I felt his appreciation and dedication to our country. Graceful finish. It's not a loss...he fought for our country to be what it is today, and we can consider the outcome of this election the greatest reward to democracy.
