2008 Madness Outside the Showbox

onHundreds of people have been marching up and down 1st and Pike since our election night party got out a few hours ago. It’s the most beautiful mob scene we’ve ever seen.
The totally peaceful, completely gleeful crowd has been cheering, dancing and intermittently chanting “Yes-we-can!” “O-bam-a!” and “wooooooooo!”
If you look closely, you can see the drum circle. Seriously.
Wooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!
Ron Sims was at the epicenter of this crazy mass of people.
Apparently a group of skinheads showed up and were taken down in about six seconds. After that, the cops were just hanging back and chuckling.
And, for good measure, a robot.

Skinheads with deathwishes.
Fucking idiots.
Haha, that picture of Sims is just CLASSIC. What a lovably wonky nerd.
The guy in the fountain - his bits must've been chilly! Talk about taking one for the cause!
@ 3 - oops, meant for the above post.
That spontaneous parade/celebration was the loveliest thing I've ever experienced.
The Showbox party was pretty great too.
Thanks, everybody. :grouphug:
I/ROBOT 2012!
I just got home from my volunteer work doing voter protection tonight, and as excited as I am, I feel like I missed a huge party. Such a great day! I can't wait to (go to sleep and then) wake up tomorrow to new ideas and new hope for this, MY country!
i want more details of the skinhead beatdown!!!
thiks that's me hiding behind a camera behind the drum circle. so exhausted and elated that I find drum circles just wonderful right now.
About 10:30 PM my party discovered a brass band playing on the corner of 1st and Stewart. I think it was the Circus Contraption Band, or at least some of them. Two tubas, trombone, sax, big strap on drum, snare drum, crash cymbals, and a beat up umbrella bobbing in time.
We and about 50-75 folks gathered around, and after about 10 minutes, the whole mass started moving south on the sidewalk. By the time we hit Pike we were all in the road, and I found myself agog to be actually dancing in the street!
Over the next hour we worked our way slowly south, squad cars clearing the way at each intersection. Hundreds of strangers hugging, high-fiving, and occasionally strutting.
Someone in the crowd observed that it was like a New Orleans funeral, and it was, but it was also something quite opposite.

I love you, Vote Bot!!!
VoteBot was overcome with emotion last night. VoteBot saw all kinds of people celebrating and dancing in the street, and everybody was high fiving and thanking VoteBot.
VoteBot also really loved being in the conga line at Pike and Broadway.
VoteBot wants to thank everyone for participating in Democracy. VoteBot is excited to see what's going to happen next.
