Indiana Tea Leaves

Sullivan:

The exit polls show [Indiana independents] went for Obama over McCain by 58 to 39 percent. If the exit polls are right, Obama’s going to win Indiana. Which means it’s over. I can’t yet quite believe it. But my self-protective denial is slowly breaking down.

Kos, MSNBC have McCain in Indiana currently by 3%. Damn early numbers. Which is more reliable; exit polls or early returns?

I'm going to grad school in Indiana and I can tell you that even though the early returns are favoring McCain, some of the reliably blue counties still aren't reporting. I don't know that I trust the exit polls but I'm still feeling hopeful.

Poll numbers should NOT be trusted - those were the things that built up all the Kerry hopes. Let Indiana go; hell - let Virginia go! If Barack holds North Carolina and PA, he basically needs nothing else.

That seems premature.

I really hope Obama wins this state, and he still could. My boyfriend has been field organizing for Obama in Indianapolis and he says it will be really close. But if we win IN we will have won the whole deal. Mind you my protective shell is still saying we could yet loose this thing completely, but that's how I know I am still a democrat.

Don't get me wrong - I would LOVE a blowout victory, but going by the maps, after PA, Obama needs only one more big one - NC or Ohio (now seeming more likely) would finish it.

Exit polls are bullshit.

Won't happen, but that doesn't matter. They don't need IN.

I don't see the state (Indina) going Obama, but I could be wrong. We haven't gone Dem since the early 60s.

My folks were married in Seattle, which is why I keep up with you.

This. I am so glad I did not find out that Indiana went Blue until this morning. I would have lost it right there in Grant Park.

This is my favorite thing ever.
