Watch Christian monks brawl at a holy site!

Israeli police have had to restore order at one of Christianity’s holiest sites after a mass brawl broke out between monks in Jerusalem’s Old City.

Fighting erupted between Greek Orthodox and Armenian monks at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the traditional site of Christ’s crucifixion.

Two monks from each side were detained as dozens of worshippers traded kicks and punches at the shrine, said police.

Trouble flared as Armenians prepared to mark the annual Feast of the Cross.

Shall we say it again? Yes, let’s say it again:Gott ist tot:

…And we have killed Him. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers? What was holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet owned has bled to death under our knives: who will wipe this blood off us? What water is there for us to clean ourselves?

This is soooo intolerent. Charles is finally showing his true colors. All of us who once admirred you now see you for what you are- a pathetic bigot.

Gee, if it worked to silence Dan, maybe it will work to get Charles to STFU.

Sam,

You should instead bask in the glory of a Marxist quoting Nietzsche.

#3 I am going to guess that this is one of those times when it is hard to hear the sarcasm through the interweb tubes.

But in case I am wrong. How does this make Charles intolerant? He didn’t goad them by saying “the slight doctrinal difference in our interpretation of a 2,000 year old attempt to explain the universe means you are dammed.” Nor did he take the video of the priests in their pretty pink frocks playing cat scratch fever by the resting place of their god. All he did was repost something that the AP had already put.

#3, oops you opened your mouth and confirmed that you don't know what you're talking about. Oh well, that does happen. In case there are those that don't know; Muslims have the Key to the door of the Sep. Greeks control the entry (I think) Armenians control some other aspect, Catholics control something else with the Sep. and on and on. So it's no wonder they get mad at each other from time to time.

Charles is reporting the news, not making it.

It's cooler when Shaolin monks fight.

Every time you post one of these pieces, you seem to forget that this is not the first time. Monks from various sects of Christianity that stake a claim to the Holy Sepulchre do this all the time. It's essentially a territorial dispute, and one that's ongoing. If an Israeli soldier hears that there's fighting that needs to be broken up, he or she sighs resignedly and breaks it up for the second or third time in a year.

the funniest part is that the Holy Sepulcher site has absolutely no archaeological merit. everyone's known it's not the "real" tomb site for 100s of years.

Yep, this is standard behavior at this site. There is a ladder on the front that's been there for decades because no-one can figure out who's allowed to take it down. Seems like the "prince of peace" part of the message didn't really sink in with these guys. And the Copts who had built themselves housing on the roof had to be evicted earlier this year-it all got ugly.

Wow, a non-screed funny comment from elenchos. There is a sense of humor there.

As a non-religious person, I find Monk fights to be both hilarious and confirmational. Thanks, fools, keep it up!

The sects these monks belong to have been fighting for about 1500 years. They have been fighting over the so-called Holy Sepulchre since the Crusades, there just hasn't been any video of it until recently.
