Does he have to attempt suicide during rush hour???

Fences...

Ineffective against immigration...ineffective against suicide.

If you really want something bad enough...you'll find a way.

Haven't seen John Bailo posting this morning. Could be busy in finger painting class. Or could it be???

Has he jumped or wussed out yet? I need to get to Tacoma on 99. How hard could it be?

There's an even better way to avoid this: those useful Suicide Booths from Futurama.

@ 6, who the hell commutes to Tacoma via 99 all the way from anywhere north of the Aurora Bridge?

Poor guy. Build the fence.

My friends, this great nation of ours has become a cesspool of iniquity under the rule of godless liberals.

During the past eight years, the tax-and-spend Hollywood liberals in Washington D.C. have transformed America from a shing city on a hill into a 3,000 mile wide porno theater.

For too long, we've suffered an endless shower of spooge upon the floor of our great nation. The time has come for real change. The time has come to mop up the cum.

Mop up the cum, America!

Vote McCain/Palin on Nov. 4!

I would, if I were you.

I just went by on a northbound 5...all I saw were a dozen cops looking over the edge of the bridge.

Better than putting up a fence would be to stop trying to talk people down and let them do their own thing.

And when are they gonna put an anti-light-yourself-on-fire fence around red square if these fences are so effective?

he jumped about 20 minutes ago.

I was worried he'd puss out for a second there. This isn't as lucrative as setting yourself on fire in front of hundreds, but since he ruined a lot of morning commutes it's just as good.

There was a power outage which originated in Fremont around 9:00 A.M. I wonder if the suicide landing caused it...

NO PEDESTRIAN signs indicate the Aurora Bridge sidewalks are closed; then fence off access to the sidewalks.

Almost no one jumps off the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge because pedestrians are not permitted.

Cost: minimal

Mr. Poe @3 for the win.

Seriously, you made me miss my bus.

Would you rather he blew his head off with a gun?

Let him jump.

I guess it's pretty easy for people to de-humanize someone anonymous who kills himself.

Anyone who has ever been remotely close to a suicide case would never make such callow, un-feeling comments. By the time something like this happens, something has gone disastrously wrong -- often a chain of events, some of which might have been preventable.

Regardless of the person's individual story, it's awful and it's sad. If making flip remarks on an internet message board is how you process things like this, then I feel for you.

Notwithstanding how you may or may not feel about the attempted suicide him/herself, the people who jump from the Aurora Bridge have a really bad habit of landing on the pavement below, instead of the water, as one would presume would be the intent. Some of the businesses and residences under the bridge live in mortal terror of having someone fall on them, or on their house or car. Falling bodies have actually done quite a lot of damage over the years.

It's one thing to want to kill yourself, and quite another to cause collateral damage in the process. That being said, I don't understand why more people don't use the Tacoma Narrows Bridge instead.

I have enormous sympathy for the terminally ill or the terminally deranged who commit suicide. I don't have much sympathy for the "my life sucks" school of suicide. It's a last desperate selfish act to get a little bit of attention and fame before ending their life and causing their families endless amounts of grief, pain and guilt.

And, yes, I've known a couple attempteds and one successful and they were all for lame, "boo hoo, poor little me" reasons. For the pain they caused their loved ones, I would have liked to slap the shit out of all of them.

The survival rate is higher for those that land in water as compared with a high fall to a parking lot. Some people might take that into account. Additionally, the section that is over the water is a further walk. Some people may just want to get it over with and walk less.

Why build a fence? I like the idea of removing the pedestrian area... open that up to cars, and then make the lanes a bit wider. If they really want to cross that area, go underneath, or catch a bus...

Damn, that's a great idea!

Screw the overpriced fence...

True story:

Some years ago, a guy I knew named Donnie was standing in his front yard beneath the Aurora bridge.

His shrooms were just kicking in when he heard a loud crash, looked up, and saw a Metro bus falling towards him. It landed a few yards away, mostly in the yard, some of it on top of his apartment.

Donnie's first reaction: "These aren't that powerful."

All I'm sayin' is that the people who live below the Aurora bridge are bloody well justified in any concerns they might have about shit falling on them.
