Lame. I am not proud to be from Sammamish at this point. For the record, my parents who still live out on the Sammamish Plateau, voted for Darcy and went to her election night party in Bellevue. I hope she runs again in two years.

I think Darcy should have hit back hard after the Econ-degree thing. After all, Reichert for years was touting that he had a bachelor's degree while really having a 2-year. That's quite a fraud in my book.

Uhhh... no. She tried twice, and failed. Both times during a blue wave. Both times against one of the dimmest bulbs in the Republican party. This time with the assistance of Obama's coat tails. Reichert is a douchenozzle, and should have been easy to knock off. If she can't win under those conditions, she never will.
Sorry. I supported her, I liked her, and hoped she'd win. But she didn't, and she won't. Time to find a different candidate to try next time.

Next time, can we get someone with at least SOME experience or maybe something at all to offer the voters, and not just the activists, like more than XML on her tshirt?!

She did the right thing by conceding. Now she can return to being a loving wife and mother to her family.

Personally, I was surprised that Darcy had such a rough go of it. She should have been a lock. Must've been a weak campaign.
No third time is a charm here. The D's (and I'm one of them) need to reassess and go get someone that can win (or come close) the Pierce County voters. Without that, you'll never get enough votes to add to the votes coming from King County's portion of the 8th. In both counties the results have been the same- a significant gap for the Republican in Pierce County, and close to a tie in King County. She had not only help and support monetarily and otherwise within her district, but honestly had significant support from a broad base of Dems helping out that were from outside the 8th.
IMO the Harvard thing killed her. Besides coming off as flippant publicly (although she's not in person, one on one) the whole Harvard thing was brought up to turn off Pierce Co. voters in particular. Didn't matter WHAT degree she had from Hahvard, the fact that she did and was a Microsofie (and the perception the campaign was funded in part by funds that ultimately came from there, even if some funds came from her) doomed her with many blue collared moderates from the 8th. She compounded it by actually running an ad highlighting her Harvard background. It was a political coup for Reichert's campaign to pick up on that scent and run with it.

I blame Sandeep Kaushik, a former writer for The Stranger, for her defeat. He should have advised Burner to say she misspoke in the heat of the moment. Instead she was allowed to go on claiming she had a degree in economics. The fallout from this false claim likely was the difference in the election.
If I lived in this district, I'd have voted for Ms. Burner. I really would. I've deeply dislike Mr. Reichart. Have thought he was an asshole since the early days of his service as King County sheriff.
That said, I have never, ever understood the fervid enthusiasm for Ms. Burner. Her case for herself seemed always to consist of the bare facts that she wasn't born rich, had gone to Harvard, was a Microsoft manager, and could rattle off the Democratic party talking points at a moment's notice. And impressive life to be sure, but what were her public service credentials? It's an honest question. I've never heard anyone say. Also the fact that, having completed both a Harvard degree and a Juris Doctor at U.W., she felt compelled to lie about her educational credentials -- well, that just made her seem like a slimy corporate climber.
Are there really no people in the 8th that actually have a respectable history of public service? Perhaps between now and next time, if we're to suffer Ms. Burner again, she can do a little community work that doesn't involve merely running for Congress.
I hope Darcy runs again and again and again! Like me!
I liked Darcy and would have voted for her if I lived in the 8th, but if she can't unseat a Bushie like Reichert in two Democratic landslides it's time for her to move on. Does the 8th have anyone else who could try the next time?
At least now we won't have to witness Reagan Dunn beating Darcy in 2010 to retake mommy's seat.

I live in Issaquah, voted for Darcy, and will be happy to see a fresh choice next election time. She did not run a high energy nor inspired campaign.

Federal office should not be your first gig in politics. Why doesn't Darcy go for City, County or State and get some of that experience in Politics that she lacks?
