Pls. emjoy and celebrate victory knock on wood etc. but in 2 days all that happens is the election.
To get stuff passed we need 60 votes in te Senate and if exp. any guide overwhelming majorities in the house.
For that we all need to say plugged, organized, activated etc. to push push push for the Obama legislative program.
There is much he can do by exec action but really the change we want is big and will require more legislation than the New Deal.
There will be lots of battles ahead, disappointments, course corrections, two steps forward one step back, and do not be disappointed if we don't even get it all passed right away.
Plus obviously our nation is in shit 1000x deeper than thought one year ago.
Arc of justice etc.; Obama's main virtue today is he is making changes in teh framin gof issues redefining progressive agenda as the "American" values agenda etc.; so...

3. the inertia of Congress is the greatest enemy of change, not just Republicans. Have you forgotten the public's distain for congress and their inaction? Public wisdom calls it correctly. Whole bunch of timid, high living do nothing shitty leaders in that mess.
4.the USA is broke and the feds must play in the economic crises, there is a limit somewhere. Too much paper printing will be a danger. On the other hand, Fed Notes are selling very cheap. The whole national debt can be refinanced at 2 per cent or less for long terms. In the international game, US Fed Notes are the only commodity considered totally safe, never defaulted in 200 years.
5.People must get back to work, even more important than the middle class getting a tax break.
6. Tax breaks for education, health insurance, and more for each kid are fine.
Good luck, it will be a hard year ahead. Radicals will hate Obama in 120 days - he will no go sharply to the left all at once. The economy must function. And, he will be bi partisan and centrist.
Is something happening on Tuesday?
The top five electoral vote map websites on Google have Obama winning all the Kerry states from 2004 (252 electoral votes). Added to this are Iowa, solid blue on all maps; New Mexico, Colorado and Virginia, solid blue or leaning blue; and Nevada, considered a tossup only on 270ToWin, otherwise blue or leaning blue. Obama only needs 18 more electoral votes, something easily achievable, even without the coveted Florida and Ohio, one or both of which will likely go in his direction. Georgia has now joined North Carolina in the tossup column, and although it will probably go for McCain, it shows efforts to increase the African-American vote are working. Montana and North Dakota are also considered tossups. No matter which way they go, this should put Republicans on notice that rural America is no longer reliably red.
I haven't counted the proverbial chickens yet; GOP shenanigans can be counted on with as much certainty as rain in Seattle. And as 7 and 8 point out, even if Obama wins decisively and Congress becomes even more solidly Democratic, the change we need isn't going to happen overnight. It is going to take a while to clean up eight years worth of W's mess and we as Obama's supporters will need to be patient.
As for Tuesday, I will be with a friend splitting a bottle of champagne when Obama hits the magic number 270.

I watched the first disc of the second season of West Wing today and almost hyperventilated when Bartlet got shot. I think I might be too invested in this election, because the idea of a good Democratic president at this point makes me more nervous than happy. I'm convinced some undereducated pack of pissed-off white boys (who have been screwed by the Republican party and not the Democrats they so love to hate) are going to attempt to take it upon themselves to make history.
Please god, let Obama win on Tuesday so I can stop freaking the fuck out.
oh and I hope Doc Hastings loses his seat Tuesday as well - looks probable right now.
