semi-shocking. but then again it makes sense, since iranian women are considered second class citizens with little or no brains.

hey, it sounds archaic and insulting to us 1st worlder's, but considering that this is taking place in the cesspool that is Iran, its probably a step forward.

At least they consider women important enough to market to them!

Yes, because American automakers never even consider targeting men or women specifically with different makes & models. Truly, this could only be the product of some foreign land we needn't understand.

@ben,

are you saying all those ads featuring scantly clad women doing semi-sexual actions are created to try and get me to buy the product?

I dont believe it.

At least they've conceded their women the right to drive. That's a positive step, right?

Well, considering that Western carmakers can't come up with anything that doesn't have seats/airbags tested solely on 6' & 250lbs crash test dummies, I wouldn't mind a car with women *in mind*. But not getting grease on my chador is waaaaaay down there below, y'know, not dying.

Meet the Volvo YCC, to see what the sophisticated first world thinks of women.

Detroit made a pink "woman's car" in the 50's, which was more or less the same as Iran's: automatic plus a bunch of stupid fluff.

Also, check out the pink and leopard print Taser C2s. Brilliance. Amiright?

Uh, as someone who has actually been to Iran in the last 10 years - Iranian women are generally well educated and not to be fucked with! When an Iranian woman says "Jump!", The correct response from a man is "How high?" Don't believe the bullshit US media - It ain't Saudi Arabia!

@ 10

that explains it! just because iranian women

cannot have guardianship of their children.

do not have the right to divorce equal to men.

cannot leave the country without permission of her husband

doesn't mean that they aren't the boss.
those were self induced restrictions right?

The cushions will be over stuffed and be difficult for men to sit comfortably.

I know more than one woman in the US who hasn't got a clue how to change a tire, let alone do it without getting greasy.

There's nothing inherently sexist in making a car easier to service while wearing loose clothing instead of a shirt and pants. Try changing a tire sometime in a scarf and a long dress. Also, I'll happily buy an Iranian car if they produce a model with a seatbelt that doesn't run across the throat and strangle me.

@11 My comment was specifically about cars being marketed to women in Iran and the reponse in comments- YES - women are considered important enough to have a car designed for and marketed to them. Not something afforded a segment of the population that is considered brainless and/or worthless. It was not meant to be a comment about divorce or guardianship laws, which I agree are deplorable. I said it wasn't Saudi Arabia, I didn't say it was like here.

Personally, I refuse to own automatics. I hate 'em. Don't actually really know how to drive one. I've been driving a stick for more than 30 years. Changing my own tires (and spark plugs, and oil, and filters) as well.

Want to market things to women? Quit with the idea that women are too stupid to operate machinery or are inherently attracted to labial tints; make things that fit a smaller person better.

If you look through magazines from the 50's and 60's, you'll see plenty of car ads that demonstrate that the American response to the Growing New Trend of Women Driving Cars was basically the same. (You'll also see ads about the health benefits of smoking!)

While we're on the subject, I wish they'd invent a special lug wrench that helps people without much upper body strength change a tire. Jacking the car up is easy, but then I'm left sitting there in the jacked-up car waiting for the AAA guy to come take off the damn lug nuts.

@16

You don't know how to drive an automatic? Are you unclear as to the concept of 'automatic'?

Also, spark plugs don't wear out. Stop changing them. Just take them out, clean them, and put them back until you die, or car dies.

@17

You're supposed to loosen the lug nuts before you actually jack the car up off the ground, so that you can leverage against the full weight of the car on the ground. 'Cause otherwise, the wheel just spins in the air.
