Was he making the sign move? Wackily?

In addition to feeling sympathetic for any sign-wielding corner jockey, I always think that if I were their employer I would be driving by every twenty minutes and yelling 'Try to wave the sign about 15% wackier -- we'll never auction these condos / Little Caesar's pizzas with mediocre wackiness!'

I felt pretty bad for the lady on Pine and Broadway. It's one thing to stand there while cars drive by. It's another to stand there while people surround you waiting for the crosswalk signal. Awkward!

There are much worse jobs. For instance, I worked in the file room at Mutual of Omaha for two summers: two stories underground, a city block in size, and filled with row on row of yellow file cabinets. That was one of the worst jobs ever.

OTOH, My best job was selling popcorn at Rainier Square.

My Halloween costume last year was a sandwich-board guy, advertising the "LaMe Condominiums." I decided to actually work a few corners that day. I have never felt so ignored in all my life. Dancing around, pointing at drivers. They all just ignored me completely.

I made up some sandwich-board lingo too. This guy is working a "hand-job" (referring to his hand-held sign). Another category is GOB-Job (going-out-of-business), we should be seeing plenty of these soon.
