It will be interesting to see how Virginia turns out. It's been leaning Blue longer than most think, electing Mark Warner as gov (and now Senator) and Webb in '06. I think Obama's timing and message might just be enough to pick VA off.

The next time you visit, I suggest taking a trip 40 miles south to St. Augustine - which is still somewhat in that "good ole boy" network of stereotypical republicanism, but has a lot of the aspects that make this state worth existing in. Nice restaurants, nice people, great local music, and a constantly churning political tide. Of course, there's plenty of golf as well (the World Golf Village is a monstrous complex).

Please don't judge Florida by that blemish to the north, thank all military members of your family for their service, and look up Reverend Z if you make it back to our neighborhood down here - I'll pay back the enjoyment of reading your words with a pint at one of the Nation's Oldest City's numerous drinking establishments.

When you look at those who live on base and in barracks, which tends to be enlisted - the bulk of the Army, of course - you find they don't back Comrade John Marx McCain.

I've spent the last few weeks in GA on a Navy base. This is not metropolitan Atlanta (which I'm sure is going Obama), this wass total Jeay-Sus land, which you would assume would go McCain/Palin. And I was pretty shocked to see a lot of Obama bumper stickers and even some of my colleagues voting for Obama. This would have been unheard of 8 years ago as the military was solidly Republican back in those days. I'm not sure what caused this to happen, but I imagine it has something to do with Bush sucking ass.

I've voted Democrat since 2004 now, my Dad (a 20-year Air Force Veteran) will vote Obama, and my Brother (a 6-year Army Veteran who saw 2 year-long tours in Iraq and another in S. Korea) is voting Obama. We're Midwesterners, but don't see eye-to-eye with everyone back in Ohio. My Mom is voting Obama, and so is my Sister (who has a husband in the Army).
