What's that word that describes Sarah Palin's assessment of her own abilities? Starts with a "D" and ends with "-lusional?"

Anyone?

I'm really not sure what to think about the notion that Palin might try to become a prominent figure in national politics (and possibly run in 2012).

On the one hand, maybe she will draw off the social conservative loonies from the far right (maybe into a 3rd party, maybe just a faction of the Repubs), leaving room for the core Repubs to return to their small govt., fiscal conservative origins. This could lead to (1) a more reasonable core Republican party and (2) Democratic dominance due to a fracture in the Republican party.

However, if Obama's first term does not go well (i.e., the shitstorm we've gotten ourselves into is not easily fixed in four years), and if the American people forget that they thought she was completely unqualified in 2008... Maybe she has a chance.

I just realized that I'm already worrying about 2012. Awesome. The mark of a true Democrat...

I believe the term we're looking for is "eating their own". Forgive my schadenfreude but DAMN I'm having fun. How is it that the Democrats are the ones who have our shit together this time? Let this be a reminder-- 8 years in the wilderness can sometimes be a blessing.

The only reason she was picked is because Bill Kristol loves her so much. I think the far right couldn't give a shit about McCain... They're just using him to get Palin into office.

I think it's funny there even is a "Palin camp." Has she been doing this long enough to have a camp?

I'm surprised no one's yet commented on the most important point of this post -- just how much of the ozone layer has Palin single-handedly destroyed by using products to keep her hair up like that?

@8: I think you're reading it wrong. The term "Palin camp" refers to a style of dress and demeanor that is deliberately kitschy, folksy and over-the-top.

It's easy to gloat, but in poltics the worm has a way of turning. No matter how the Democrats conduct themselves over the next four years it is clear that the Republicans will orchestrate a constant and withering attack. The Ds will have to work very hard to make them and Mr. Obama successful.

If I were Johm McCain or his andvisors (and I am v. glad I am not), I would be working out a way to trash Palin so badly her future political career would be over. Since she has regularly gone off topic, does not follow strategic advice, and has obviously decided to use her nomination as a launching pad, she has reneged on her compact with McCain to support his run. Not that I am at all sorry about any of that. I just hope they eventually leak all the real dirt they have on her and bring her down as badly as she did them.

@13, That's what happened to Clinton, but the hope is that the Republicans will be so busy attacking each other this time that they won't have time to attack Obama. Or that their attacks will be reduced to screaming "redistributionist!" and then getting huffy when everybody rolls their eyes at them. What we're seeing is the political worm turning on the Republicans.
