Ted Stevens, the tubular gift that keeps on giving.

yeesh. The repubs this year are all fight, no brain. They have nothing but short-term gimmickry on their side - why in the world did anyone think that a ticket of two hard-headed 'mavericks' that don't listen to what others say would be a good idea? They're like some self-hating, destructive siamese twin.

Now these fools have turned the whole $150,000 wardrobe thing, which I thought was overblown in the first place (i wouldn't be surprised if RNC and McCain/Palin donations went to baby-seal clubbing events for party bigwigs) into a real issue? Damn, I thought it was only the WA state GOP that was in this kind of disarray...

I don't like Palin but I don't see how her actions as a politician are any different from other politicians...if you want to win in politics, you can't always be nice. I'm sure you could find people who would be happy to testify how Barack Obama, or Bill Clinton, or even Patty Murray stabbed them in the back on their way up the political ladder...

Leave it SLOG to use only anti-feminist arguments against Palin.

They can't deal with a smart successful and attractive women.

She breaks the false narrative that Seattle culture has written about itself.

Welcome to Hypocrattle, Wash-IN-TON

Ah, now there's the America-hating John Bailo we all know and despise ...

She rhymes with something, but it ain't "rich." Try something a trifle more gutteral..."grunt."

gee shucks John Bailo, you sure hit the nail on the head with that one.

though I'd say she's more manipulative then she is smart, and as far as success goes, I really have no idea how she got as far as she did. Though I'd be willing to bet that in a few years she'll be seen as nothing more than a joke. Attractive? I suppose. But on the same level as seeing someone pretty at the grocery store or the gas station.

Fear mongering is never a viable campaign strategy.

Will you stop acting like you are in any way important? You make your living by talking about dicks and assholes for god sakes!!! You are hardly a qualified political mind. The only reason you get on Maher is because you're gay and liberal. You are such a pompous, pro-war douchebag!!! Have you visited any soldiers, Dan? Have you seen anyone who had their limbs blown off, Dan? Then Shut the fuck up! And the sooner you realize that, the better.

@4-Sorry dude, but this woman is NOT smart, and no way would she have been "successful" in any other state. You remind me of the neo-con praise for Coulter-she of the shrill, bombastic, childish writing.

@8 (and 9-(double posting douchebag)) Dan has been writing about local and federal politics for years now. He brings an important perspective to the conversation, and while I don't always agree with him, I don't think, IMHO, a person needs a degree in poli-sci in order to be able to make intelligent comments about politics. Go fuck off yourself.

@3,

I would normally agree with you, and I do find that women are often criticized for backstabbing and aggressive behavior in politics and business way more than men. Take Hillary Clinton and Martha Stewart as examples. My problem with Palin is the sheer magnitude of betrayal and backstabbing coupled with her own corruption and incompetence.

She's an Alaskan Politician, keshmeshi, of course she's corrupt and incompetent.

To all you posters accusing the Slog of being sexist: YOU are the sexist ones. I am so sick of McCain/Palin supporters cynically rushing to my defense as a woman everytime liberals dare to criticize Palin. Like all women will swoon that you are coming to defend the honor of women by defending Palin. Or that we, as women don't use the word "bitch" as a criticism too. Do you not live on this planet? Your supposed defense of a woman's honor is more insulting to me than someone saying the "b" word. It's the fucking old stereotype that women are delicate and need to be protected. Palin defenders are the ones being sexist. Women in politics have to be strong and they can take the namecalling. We fought for equal treatment, not special treatment. That includes being held up to the same standards men are when they do something shitty and/or illegal. It's all about context. Calling a woman a bitch because she runs a tight ship and doesn't take crap from men? Yeah, that would be kind of sexist. But calling a woman a bitch for being a vindictive, self-serving, hypocrite who doesn't really care about other women, but just says it to sound good? JUSTIFIED. In this case, the things Palin has done as V.P. candidate and as governor of Alaska (I'm from Alaska BTW), if she were a man Dan would be calling her a bastard, or an asshole. Hell, if she were a man he might even call him a cocksucker. Guess that Dan would then be a homophobe too? According to your reasoning anyway. Since it is now people on the Right demanding we be PC (irony anyone?) maybe we should just call Palin an asshole. Is that okay you hypersensitive rightwingers? Asshole is afterall an equal opportunity insult. Palin certainly has earned the label.

Who are you responding to? I don't see a single charge of sexism in this thread.

It was obvious Snarky Sarah was vicious and vindictive during her supposedly-successful convention speech.

What I heard was a woman *way* too full of herself, smug, sarcastic & self-righteous. I think that deep down she really does believe that she is Witchcraft's gift to mankind.

@16 - Responding to @4 (John Bailo). His argument that Dan is somehow "anti-feminist" (which to my mind is code for sexist) and that Palin's critics just can't handle a strong woman. I realize from most of Bailo's posts he is deliberately trying to provoke, but his charge that anyone who dares to criticize Palin is against women is one being used consistently by McCain/Palin supporters around the country as well as by the McCain/Palin campaign itself. To me playing the "gender card" is just as obnoxious as playing the "race card".It pisses me off, and I felt the need to vent.

We all know by now that Republicans are rats. You either fight fire with fire or you lose. It's that simple. One of their biggest lies is "The Dems will raise your taxes". Turn it around and say the Rs will ruin your children's future. Get good and mean or perish. They fight dirty. You fight dirtier or you lose. Don't complain and whine about it.
