Want Art?

posted by on October 8 at 10:35 AM

There’s an art lending library in West Seattle! They bring the stuff right to your house. So cool. It debuted in May, and you can check it out again Thursday night!

Artists will donate pieces that community members can check out for up to 2 months and display in their homes. The only requirement is that if you check one out, you take a photo of it on display in your home, and provide a writeup afterward about what it meant to have the piece in your home.

Here’s a video of how it works, from West Seattle blog.

That's actually a really cool idea, and far cheaper than SAM's "rent-a-painting" program, to be sure.

Just wish I didn't have to drive out to W.S., is all.

Eh, maybe next month...

Cue inevitable West Seattle-bashing, now.

Can you buy the art that you like after it has been in your home?

buses 120 and 125 pass right by the venue.
the library does not sell work. we prefer each piece to stay in circulation for 2 years, however, we will put you in touch with the artist so you can deal with them directly.
and for the record, we don't require the patron to photograph the work. instead we have a documentary photographer along with us when we pick-up the artwork to snap a portrait of the patrons with the work in their homes. we also drop off an art report to be filled out but there are no requirements other than to respect and enjoy the artwork we bring to you.
