I grew up down the road from one of the horses that "played" the Black Stallion. He was beautiful and noble and I got to feed him sugar. He wasn't black though - they had to dye him.

FYI, Francis Ford Coppola was the producer, but Carroll Ballard directed The Black Stallion.

I grew up having a huge crush on Teri Garr, won over by her movie roles and her recurring guest appearances on Letterman. A little while ago I read this delightful interview in the Onion and it reminded me of how awesome she is.

This posted after the film's start time, fyi. But now I want to watch my Black Stallion DVD. Fun fact: When I was six, I went as the Black Stallion for Halloween. My "boyfriend" went as a cowboy. You can imagine our mothers' consternation.

This seems like a description of a nice classic movie...however, since this is SLOG, I have to assume there's some kind of gay obsession with Mickey Rooney or "black stallions" or both or something else that I'm not hip enough to grok a reference for.

OR ... You could go to the final performance of Holcombe Waller's world premiere of Through the Dark Unknown: The Hope Chest at On the Boards. I'm surprised that The Stranger hasn't covered the work of this Portland singer-songwriter more. He's terrific.

Dear Lindy,

Thank you for the kind and nostalgic
"feel good" movie suggestion for

'Nicklesville Moviefest 2008',

"Pick of the Week Movie".

Barring the far and away, and by and away far from each others long distance relationships....

the finest events from which amongst all of the glorious choices of venue to escape inside the grinding constants of

" The Screeching Fountains of Construction Clubs "....

There you will be free and unfettered to rsvp casual and languid escapades picturing slides into little crawl spaces and hide aways ....

where for a few hours to forget the troubles and intrusions of the news sections....

[ ;{unpaid intern 9:30 am

you " see, hear, and obey the call of your mind's eye".

Yooo-hoo dear Lindy...,

"Your Old Sweet Uncle",

was infact only recently well outside the means within which the method of dialing up dialing down cable channels of remembrance would neatlty bring about a place where we would watch together in groups of friends and families, classic film treasures of bye-gone eras such as

National Velvet and Urban Cowboy...

and your pick for the SIFF showcase is in doubled down mirth I might add,

'reverently considerate' for the aging Auntie's and friends who "no doubt", would love to pinch your cheek , and

" give you a big wet smoochie ",

"because you are just so garsh darn cute".

Without the enlightened brilliance of your young mind, I would surely be caught up in the fears of the flesh, and the problematic theocratic mumblings of solving stories and none such passages in time reading through the dictionary for large words of infinate meaning within selective context,

and of course,

now and again intercepting the astral plane projections at night from the early morning hours as if they were tuned frequencies in the 5 billion light-year star search contest to trickle up the mineral rights of safe deposits in bank and gifted to the poor from note tending by runaway pirates.

Remember Dear Lindy,

to lay claim on the news page headlines only when appropriately "distressed"...

lest your jealous cousin " M " come back to town in her "chariot on fire"....

and in (d)ire over emergency, lay waste to the last of your

"Dear Old Uncle's fortune".

Surely you respresent the new Anna, here in Glestra'chslingse^rvele' Court...

so, go forth eagerly... and there enjoy your new found freedom from the flower beds of journalistic enticements.

And for all the good times we shared,

remember always what your librarian playmate "Schmeds" said about chasing J.P. around time and town, looking for clowns with dynomite in their pockets and poppers in their purses....

......."pucker up with a smile" !

S,U.
