It's shocking, I tell you, shocking, that a maverick would go rogue.

Oh, only now David Brooks decides to decry anti-intellectualism?! And how long was he singing the praises of the anti-intellectualism and gut instinct of one George W. Bush? Like a lot of pundits trying to get along, Brooks sold out when it was convenient. Now he suddenly decides to stand for what he claims to have always stood for--now when, well, when it's convenient.

Putting rogue on a maverick is like putting $9000 worth of lipstick on a pig.

OK, that joke-like thing is tired already. But not as tired as I was when I read the following description of Palin in the Anchorage Daily News the other day:
"Passionate, charismatic and indefatigable, she draws huge crowds and sows ... "

Should have known you guys would pick up on the humor of this... A maverick, behaving mavericky? You don't say! You see, while INSIDE the Beltway, "maverick" means "nobody can stand this guy", OUTSIDE the Beltway, it means "fuck all y'all, I'm doing my own thing". Maybe if McCain had attended a few less Georgetown cocktail parties, he would have known this. Too late!

Yet another way that Palin resembles G.W. : She believes her own bullshit. She really thinks that she is a "maverick" and that this is a good thing. She thinks she doesn't need to know anything, because she's just so inherently awesome.

It's what happens when the generation that is spoon-fed on talking points hatches out and crawls off into the world with a head full of that nonsense. Unlike the cynical hucksters who first concocted the sales pitch, they actually believe it to the core of their dull-witted, incurious, entitled beings.

I wouldn't worry too much about the post-November 4 Sarah Palin. She is as much of a joke as Dan Quayle was in 1992. Anyone know what he's been up to lately? Anyone care?

If she decides to finish out her term as Alaska governor she will be the lamest of ducks as no one will take her seriously. The best thing she could do to save face would be to resign citing the "spend more time with my family" line (and with a special needs child that excuse would be credible) and go quietly back to Wasilla to resume her life as a hockey mom. Of course, our Dear Sarah is too full of herself to do that. She will embarrass herself even further by becoming the self appointed leader of the whackadoodle wing of the GOP. Look for her as a talking head on Faux News, joining such luminaries as Bill O'Reilly and Ann Coulter. That will REALLY give her credibility...

Yeah, but this will still come back to splatter McCain for picking Palin in the first place. Wait for McCain as Mickey Mouse in "The Sorcerer's Apprentice".

McCain-Palin 2008

McCain has changed his position on just about everything he's been asked about over the last two years, sometimes flipflopping twice within two days. That's not maverick. That's the mark of someone who has no principled center. No wonder Palin's gone "rogue" - at least this way she has a base of opinion to work from. (Not that I agree with her. Not that I don't think electing McCain/Palin would be the death knell of the country.) Besides, if she ignores him and develops her own talking points, it distracts from the growing number of ethics questions dogging her back home in I-can-see-Russia-from-my-porch.

The fight in the R party over who lost this election is a proxy for who will control the party after this collosal fuckup. If the idea that it was McSame's fault, the Jezoids will come out on top- look for Failin/Fuckabee 2012. If it gets pinned on Failin, the bankers will retain the rump vestigal has-been Republicant Party- then you'll see something like Romney/Giuliani 2012.

I'm still praying she goes "rogue" enough that she finally spouts something so crazy that she either: gets forcibly removed from the ticket, embarrasses everyone (except she herself, who clearly has no shame) and Obama wins by a landslide.

If there is any blaming to be done it'll be McCain who gets thrown under the bus. He's old & can't run again anyway; since the Republican leadership have no scruples or morals whatsoever they'll pick him as being expendable - they'll say he was never a "real" Republican - too "liberal."
