I am starting a mental collection of my favorite photographs that represent this year. This one is in there for sure (along with this one that was recently posted).

No way. ImprovAnywhere. Gotta be. I mean, yeah, there's a lot of praying going on on Wall Street right now, but c'mon.

This is just the absolute height of comedy. Fake Christians worshipping a fake idol.

The Lord will smite them for their worship of false idols.

"Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go down, because your people, whom you brought up out of Egypt, have become corrupt. 8 They have been quick to turn away from what I commanded them and have made themselves an idol cast in the shape of a calf."

Exodus 32:7

It's a BRASS BULL, NOT a GOLDEN CALF!

Apparently, that makes all the difference...

In response to your question, yes, they read the bible. They just have a difficulty comprehending it.

The people praying over the Wall Street bull are a particularly absurd brand of Christian. My experience with them has, unfortunately, been extensive. As a result, I've come to notice that those drawn to this type of Christianity are precisely the ones who need it most. Therefore, the people least capable of independent, perceptive thought are left to interpret a book that they have neither the basis for, nor the interest in, truly understanding. For a Christian of this type to ever really understand "God" would not only be a miracle, but a sin.

It is no surprise that they continually find entertaining ways of humiliating themselves. Their very salvation requires it. They begin as hypocrites and end as self-righteous hypocrites. Expecting them to either make sense, or to realize for themselves why they make no sense, is an endlessly infuriating position.

I think that would be a nice altar. It sure would get more people in church.

I'll betcha you could persuade them it was solid gold pretty easily. Maybe a bunch of them could get arrested for trying to carve chunks off of it.

It's a delicate balance, isn't it? On the one hand, we need stupid people to buy the crap that we (as a society) sell. Without them, the economy would grind to a halt, and we'd have to start producing non-crap, and that cuts into the bottom line.

But we can't let it get to a point where we have too many stupid people, or we get situations like this.

What to do?

Mr. Constant, I know Christians, and these people are no Christians.

For the record, and as someone who was raised among hellfire-and-brimstone fundies and evangelicals (albeit infinitely SANER ones than these), I just want to say that I am beyond horrified and am absolutely convinced that the world has finally gone completely insane. I have never known a religious person who would remotely consider that anything even looking like idol worship was an okay thing. This is so far beyond nuts, it's scary.

So they are asking God to fix what they broke, why don't they fix it themselves, are they too lazy? why do people always ask God to do the work to which they themselves have been assigned, God dosen't run the economy, WE DO! These same people are also always trying to do Gods work for him, passing judgments on otheres, which is Gods domain, fighting nonbelivers/unbleievers/heratics should be easy for God, why not lay off, stand back and let God act as his own henchman, if he's really all powerfull what does he need all these people for?

Can someone please inform the author that praying does not make them Christians? The act these people are doing is not a Christian act so clearly these people are not Christians no matter what they or the author says.

They could do a lot better for the market by dropping all their savings into a mutual fund.

Only, I hope they don't. Because that would also be the financially savvy thing to do right now, and I can't stand the thought of them prospering.
