Due to financial stresses, the Seattle Rep is closing its Three Musketeers a week early, according to a source affiliated with the theater. The new close date is November 9. This is the first in what will surely be a litany of closures, cancellations, and upheavals in Seattle theater for the next several years. Just a few days ago, Rep managing director Ben Moore told me that by next year, the Rep would be a "different organization." He said he has been in the theater business for 40 years, and that "people who should be in the know" say this...

Jane Zalutsky ran One Reel, the company who brings us Bumbershoot, for many years. Her background is in non-profit management where she is well respected. It was surprising that she went to WaMu.

Isn't the Rep part of Seattle Center? It would seem to me that non-profits like this, that are using city property that would otherwise be empty liabilities on the nights they are dark, might be able to re-negotiate just about everything: Rent, utilities, etc.

Take it from Paul.

Maybe it's because the Three Musketeers was aimed at a middle school audience. Not exactly high class theater. I know the rep can do better, though! I hope they make it through.

Brendan, the arts here are going to take an awful hit from this economy. I suggest we start a nascent WPA-style theater system.

Comment by Tired of lazy stranger staff

Jane Zalutsky is a VP in Brand Marketing, which is part of Marketing, which is part of Retail Banking. She is essentially middle management. She is not THE vice president of the company. she was never vice president of the company. Something some people do not get about the corporate world is that everyone and their great aunt is a vice president of something. It is no longer a title with much esteem.

The thing is that you will not dig the extra two inches to find this information out. You will shovel it to the masses to make yourself look smart and to prove whatever the hell it is that you are trying to prove. Honestly, how come you never talked about how former WaMu CEO Kerry Killinger was also Chairman of the Board at Safeco (eh-hem, Liberty Mutual?)? You could have actually had fun with that.

By the Way. Washington Mutual Inc. is bankrupt, not WaMu. WaMu is a division of a really fucking big bank.

Read a bit. Reading is fun.

@11. Most people I know realize that a VP title at a bank/financial services company doesn't really mean much. But, if it makes you feel good to rant about how stupid the Stranger and its readers are, go for it.
