You've been hitting on something that irks me a bit about the self congratulatory nature of living in politically homogeneous places.

For the most part, while living in America, I've lived in places where I didn't agree politically with the majority - San Antonio, Texas and Douglas County (Tom Tancredo's district), Colorado. As a matter of survival, I've had to develop strong arguments and cause a bit of trouble. I feel I'm a stronger liberal, feminist, gay rights supporter for my time living in the red.

Now, I'm not telling everyone here they should go move to Texas. Hell, I moved here didn't I? Be happy that you are living in a progressive area, and put your liberal passion to good use! Volunteer for another cause; call your friends and family living in swing states and tell them why everyone here is voting for Obama; write to those you know in California to vote against Prop 8.

Oh, and dude waving a GOP flag downtown? That takes guts, but it is a waste of time. If you and downtown Obama flag girl really care about politics, spend your time more constructively.
