I haven't read him either, but I'll see what they've got at the library. He can't be worse than that awful Elfriede Jelinek who won the prize a few years back. Oh lord, what a tedious bore she is...

NONE of the new crop of laureates holds a candle to the insular Americans Saul Bellow (3/4 of whose books concern Chicago Jews) or William Faulkner (ALL of whose books focus like a laser on a barely populated county in rural Mississippi) who may have covered a small patch of ground but knew how to tell a Goddamn STORY! Something that most of the recent winners have in common, with the notable exception of Orhan Pamuk, is that they are moralists first and story tellers second. I say that makes for dull literature and I say to hell with it.

Who does Philip Roth have to masturbate to get his darn prize already?

@Gurldoggie: I think we have to elect Barack Obama before the Nobel Prize committee even considers Roth for a prize. If McCain wins, Roth will never win a Nobel.

Jackie Collins alone has been to every spa in the world worth patronising, how's that for well-traveled?
