I wonder if her diction or word order oddities refelct an influence of other languages, ie Native American patterns or pronunciations. You know, when a native German or Yiddish speaker speaks English, sometimes the word order refelcts the other language: "We should be so lucky." "For this I went to medical school?" She says "also" and "again" so much I wonder if locally those words are bland "connector" words, the way we say "um" or "you know" in the lower 48.
Does she not sound a little bit like Dr. Joel's assistant, in Northern Exposure?

@16: Yes, yes. Weirdly like Minnesotan or 'Sconsinian. I didn't notice that at all when I was in Fairbanks a while back; maybe just cuz I was soaking in it.

This is how she really talks. It's a concrete example of how phony her image is now. Nobody in Alaska speaks the way she does now, unless they're from Minnesota originally. I'm not sure why her handlers picked that particular accent.

PC @ 14: whatever accent she has she might have picked up from her parents. Wasilla may be a tiny shithole by Seattle standards, but it's a good sized town by Alaska standards and is part of the state that was long ago taken over by white folks. I grew up in another similar-sized Alaskan town and have relatives who grew up in the villages, and I don't hear any Native Alaskan influences in her accent.

As for her word order choices, they didn't seem that unusual in this clip. It seems obvious to me that she has trouble putting words in order because she is not speaking with her authentic self and has been coached too much in too short of a time. From what I remember, she was pretty articulate when she ran for governor.

Wasilla is in the middle of the valley where more than 200 broke families from the Midwest — many of them from Minnesota — relocated during the Great Depression.

More interestingly, they also had someone diagram quite a few of her sentences from the Couric interviews. Illustrating, of course, what we already know: that she neither knows what she is talking about, nor how to talk about it.

It's possible to perceive, to recognise, and to appreciate effective ideas from any source, even from an opponent. That's an ability that intelligent people have. And before we get thirty more repetitions of the Stupid Mantra, I'd remind you that she did beat Frank Murkowski and Tony Knowles to become governor, so if she's stupid, what are they?

She's also one of the only politicians I've ever heard to give herself a pay cut, that is, an ACTUAL cut, meaning fewer dollars to-day than yesterday. That's impressive.
