Speaking of Free Speech

posted by on October 31 at 14:20 PM

Lots of it ensued when a man with a giant Obama-in-a-turban picture showed up at a recent Obama rally in North Carolina:

he has some giant balls. to make the effort of creating a sign and going out to an Obama rally, and not be able to intelligently or coherently defend and explain himself? horse sized balls.

That dude looked terrified.

He learned that those vague scare tactics don't work so well around people who actually ask questions... relevant ones. He really thought that he wouldn't have to add anything in the way of clarification, and why? Because at the Palin rallies it's enough to allude to some ignorant-ass fear, and everybody can coalesce into a big, healthy orgy of hate.

Wow, and nobody called him a nasty name or threatened to kick his ass! (Are those REAL Americans???)

This actually got me kind of choked up. I feel proud to be supporting the same candidate as those people (not the protester dude, the other folks).

The comparison of this video to those of Obama supporters being harassed at McCain/Palin events is stark.

Instead of making attacks against McCain or trying tell this guy why his "Obama's a secret Muslim" ideas is totally ridiculous, these people are asking the most fundamental question - Why, even if he were a Muslim, Obama should not allowed to be President of the United States. I guess they would like to amend that "no religious test for office" part right out of the Constitution.

@7 well, we don't really know what happened after the end of the video when the cops/security showed up. Did they escort him out?

I'm confused by this. Why did no one push him down and carve a backwards "B" on his cheek?

We've seen this scene before. Is there ANY QUESTION in any one's mind that hate and bigotry are deeply set in the hearts of many Americans? We see it through the freedom of speech that we have. Let these haters and bigots hold their signs, they are showing their true inner heart, May Jesus and everyone else not on their mobile phone talking condemn their wicked hearts, Amen!

i always hate seeing people get shouted down when they're outnumbered but it is also nice to see people call bull shit on racist nonsense. all i heard from that guy was it wasn't the right time. i guess he means it's not the right time to elect a christian to the presidency?

Dissent, faction, and actual questions...the mark of a real anti-American!

People told him to shut up and shouted him down. Yes, they didn't physically threaten him, but otherwise, I wouldn't call it a triumph of our side.

I would have taken the low road and made fun of the hat.

I almost... almost... feel sorry for the guy. But then I think, "Nah, forget that racist piece of shit. Obama '08!" I enjoyed how, at the end of the video, he didn't have the courage of his convictions to continue holding up his sign after being so fiercely challenged.
